Im thinking about putting together a Honda Valkyrie rig....It seems to me it would be a great bike for a sidehack, but I have never seen the combination before......Any comments, or info out there?........Thanks in advance.

Hi No Brakes,

I have seen two (2) Honda Valkyrie’s with SideCars. One was here in Illinois earlier this year at the Northern Illinois Region Sidecarist’s Pow Wow Sidecar / Trike / Campout in Pontiac, IL with a Hannigan Astro GT. The second one was at Honda HomeComing in Marysville, Ohio which had a Hannigan Astro 2+2. I have regular pictures of both (not digital) and can mail them to you. Contact me at Richard_Korzun@arcnow.com

Good Luck
Best Buddy

We mount 5 or 6 sidecars a year to the Valkyrie. They work out well as a sidecar bike. You can run an 205 50 16 automotive tire right on the stock rear wheel. We will be starting on a Valkyrie interstate next month that is getting one of our Liberator sidecars with a steering sidecar wheel as well as hub center steering for the front of the bike.

There are photos of my 98 Valkyrie/Dnepr rig in the SidecarMike album here. I have the Dauntless subframe mounted and recommend it highly. The only complaint I would ever have about the rig is that it is not fuel efficient. At interstate speeds it's good for about 25 miles per gallon. On the plus side, I can put my daughter on the passenger seat and all three of her kids in the sidecar and still not have to downshift to pass a car or climb a hill. To make a long story short, I've never ridden a sidecar rig that impressed me more. πŸ™‚

Thanks everyone for the info........Might be a good winter project.......I'll just keep cruisin' around in my 82 Goldwing rig until I find the right used Valkyrie.

Same with my rig. The Valkyrie sucks up the fuel but it sure blows down the road. The hack is for a wheelchair and must weigh around 600 pounds. Pic's at RumpStun.

My buddie, Uncle Blasto, had a Valkyrie with a Champion Legend he attached to it. I went for several rides with him, both as passenger and as pilot. He lent me this rig for a couple of longer rides. On the plus side-the power was magnificent, as if it couldn't tell the sidecar was there. It was a very pretty rig and as far as I know completely trouble free.

The down side-very poor fuel economy, low ground clearance and very heavy steering.

The fuel economy is just the way it is with that bike, he improved the ground clearance somewhat by installing different slip joints at the lower mounts. He didn't do anything about the steering because he would occasionally take the hack off and ride solo. If it were my bike I would modify the front end. I like heavy steering up to a point, because it is more stable and predictable, but that rig was just too hard on my arms and shoulders.

some pix of the rig here:

with a Texas Sidecar 2 person unit. Bob, at Texas Sidecars, used the Dauntless subframe to mount it for me. I've also had the triple trees modified to make the steering easier, which made the ride much more enjoyable. As you can imagine, it does turn some heads, but I think all sidecar rigs do.

You've heard the downside from the earlier posts - gas mileage went from not so good to pretty ugly. But, we're having a lot of fun with it and most of our use is not cross country, so I'll buy stock in oil companies and keep their product flowing single handed.

Sidecar Mike, who also frequents this site, has a Valk rig as well.

I haven't taken the time to figure out how to post pictures, so if you want to see a shot of mine, shoot me an email at gtouchstone@yahoo.com
