Top acces or rear access preferred?
I am having a new sidecar built and am trying to decide on a top access to the rear storage area or a rear door. I have never had a sidecar and like the idea of top load so things arent falling out when I open it. I hear a lot of people like rear doors so if the rack on top is loaded down you dont have to lift or unload the gear to get to the stuff inside. Not having lived with a sidecar yet I need advice from experienced people. I do plan to carry camping gear with me. also if I have a top load I would like to put a rack on the rear behind the car to hold items, which I couldnt do if I had a rear door.

I have a Velorex so mine is access thru the seat back, my thought, if carring camping gear AND the seat is removable you could have a rear access with the seat removed you could pass things the length of the sidecar.
I do not like the idea of a door on the back. You would only know that it had come open when you got to where you are going at which point you could go back and start looking for your stuff. All of our sidecars on the lower priced sidecars you access the trunk area on the lower priced sidecars by tipping the seat back forward, on the more expensive sidecars you have an external top loading trunk. I have attached a couple of photo's of my own bike to show this. You will also see that the luggage rack swings up out of the way and self supports. The last photo I just added as I like the way the rig looks from the front with the aggressive interchangeable rear wheel on the front and the two winches.

thanks for the replies. I think I like the top entry as well, good reasons you mentioned.
