tomorrow I get my hack
New guy here just saying Howdy. over two years ago I was in a bad cycle crash that nearly took my leg. My 03 HD Fatbot was fixed up long before I was, but I was left with modified suspension (me not the bike) and a bit of a balance issue. I had been thinking of adding a hack for a long time, so when faced with waiting for maybe another year to ride or add a chair, well that was a no brainier. I have been reading and researching here for about a year. Trying to learn all I could so could make an informed purchase. Sunday I bought a used Motorvation Spyder T1 and I'm picking it up tomorrow. I AM EXITED. It has been a long recovery. I only started putting full weight on my leg 3 months ago. The hack is one more step in recovering my life.

Congrats on your rig purchase. Take the info you have gleaned and get yourself out to a vacant parking lot to practice, practice, practice before you make the super slab jaunts and such.
I had a couple of shoulder surgeries that really effect my abilities to do such things as fly the chair when there is a heavy passenger in the hack. Heavy is relative, as what is heavy to one is not necessarily what is heavy for me. 🙂 I can relate to getting back in to the saddle a bit, but sidecars ain't solo motorcycles, so you have to unlearn old habits just as hard as you have to learn new ones. A vacant parking lot, vacant field or even an old, unused dirt road are your friends during your learning curve, in this regard.
Post pics and let us know how it is working for you with all the changes you have to adapt to.
Good luck with her (your ride) and ride safe.
Congrats!Post pics
best of luck with it we know where your comming from, but best of all we know where your going good luck with the rig, pics soon. Hank
Thanks for the advice about practicing. Have heard it a lot. I started researching chairs as soon as I was released from the hospital. It was obvious that Life was going to be 'different' good news is I have beaten the odds. I'm walking again, and soon to be riding.
I spent the afternoon trying to find good suitable paint for the car. My factory custom HD paint and the tomato orange paint on the chair don't compliment each other well. A lot has changed since the days when I used to paint bike parts in the yard for a few bucks.
There will be pictures as I go along.
I think I saw that one on Ebay a bit back? Seems like it had a nifty windshield on it? looked like an old race car? Looks like fun.

Congratulations, I was in a bad car accident in 2000, couldn't ride any more (balance and other problems due to a broken neck and more), so I bought a 2001 Liberty car and had it put on my 1978 FLH that I have had since 1979. If you, can take any sidecar classes available. I took Evergreen's one in Washington. It will be well worth it. It its true "you ride a motorcycle but drive a sidecar", direct and counter steering and all the other stuff. Remember you can take the kick stand off as soon as the car is attached. You will now be stable on gravel and snowy roads. I now have over 25,000 miles on the rig. Good driving to you.

Sounds like my story, Mike. I shattered my right leg in a lot of pieces
in 2006.
When they did the surgery, I went home with a staph infection from the
hospital which settled in my other leg's replacement knee joint. That
necessitated removal of the knee replacement hardware and hospitalization
for 2 months on Anti-biotic IV's to cure the infection. 6 months later they
reinstalled the knee joint. .
It was either get a sidecar or give up riding. Being only
72 years old, I'm far too young to retire from motorcycles.....8^).

Congrats on your new rig!!
Progress made today, have nearly all of the old paint off. The interior is out and I'm very pleased that the car is in good shape. The interior is OK Just needs a good cleaning. under the carpet was an assortment of M&Ms pretzels and about 5 lbs of bird-shot. (he told me he used shot as ballast, I just thought he'd of kept it in the bag) There was also enough dog hair to make an Indian blanket. This hack has obviously had some adventures. Cant wait to get it cleaned up so I can get it dirty again.
Looking good!!!
I just got off the phone with the folks at Motorvation Engineering. I wanted to pass it on that these people were very helpful. The guy I talked to talked me through the parts I have for the used hack I bought, and we figured out what I should need to get it mounted.
