TLE Wheel
I was about to bid on e-bay on a front wheel from a Road King Custom to use on the side car(so all three wheels matched). Before doing so I checked the HD web page and noticed they list a seperate part number for TLE sidecar wheel. Does anybody know the difference between a FLH front wheel and a TLE wheel? Thanks for the help.
The hub is different.
Thanks. Anybody know what is differnt about the hub? I would like to know if a front wheel can be modified to work on a hack. "The motor company" wants $500 for a matching sidecar wheel!
I put a front on a car that I built buy using a front axel on the swing arm of the car. Just weled it to the armRon in Co
I can't speak for Harleys, but I mounted a cast Honda wheel on my Dneper by swithing out the bearings and shiming out the axel nut to hold a non rotating hub cap. I even mounted the drum brake with a linkage to a pedal next to rear brake pedal, like a farm tractor.
A little foot English really helps stopping in a straight line. I havn't tried it on snow & ice yet. That may be coming tonight.
i just bought a cast black sidecar wheel to match the wheels i bought to replace the spokes. cost was $300 from local dealer.

Hi, New to the forum here but somewhat experienced with Harley sidecars. I've owned two of them at different times and I'm looking for another one for my Ultra, but I digress.
There are two different TLE wheels with which I'm familiar. The TLE's up to the late 90's had a drum brake and the axle and wheel are different. The differences, as you probably already know, are primarily in the hub center. The wheels are side-car specific and I don't see any way that a front FL wheel could be modified for sidecar use. The reason I say this is that they both use different ball bearings: The sidecar uses larger sealed ball-bearings, #9267 than the FL, which has #9247 Bearings.
As you also probably already know, Harley now makes three different styles for the TLE or TLEU. They have a cast 9 spoke, a 40 spoked wheel and a cast dish type that looks sort of like a Fatboy solid.
I'm not saying that it couldn't be done with enough Yankee ingenuity. It might be possible to turn a different axle so that you could use a stock FL wheel but it sounds expensive tp me.
If you figure out a way to do this economically, I'd sure like to know about it.
Good luck. gnm109

If you know the outside diameter of the front wheel bearing and the inside diameter of the sidecar bearing, it would be an easy matter for an automotive parts house to come up with a bearing to fit your application. That's how I fit a Suzuki front rim to my Dnepr.
Thank you all for the input. I know what I'm doing this week end. I'll pull the front wheel and side car wheel off my rig to see if what can be done.
If you are not using a HD sidecar it is very easey to change the axel to use a front axel and wheel . You can not get bearing for a HD sidecar wheel thai will fit the axel you now have, you must change the axel. Call me and I can explane better how to do itRon in CoCall me any time

This offer extend to anyone? I have a few questions about sidecar axle do's and don'ts. Wanting to rigid mount a wheel onto an axle that was designed for a rear mc.
We've mounted HD wheels on several different makes of sidecars through the years using Harley axles with Sporty or Big Twin wheels. Machine the H-D axle to the desired length, drill or insert a steel bushing into the axle hole in the swing-arm for a press fit and ring weld the axle end.
Caliper mounts are also easily attached to many swing-arms for disc brakes. Especially the Ural, Dnepr and clones with long swing-arms.
We used to do axle conversions on an exchange basis but no longer do machine work.
