suitable bike for a Duna

Hi - I have an old Duna sidecar which is very light (I can pick it up and carry it around). They were originally made in Hungary for use with small two-stroke bikes. I mounted it on my 1972 Guzzi Eldorado which is a good sized bike. I had a fair bit of trouble keeping the car down, even loaded with 125lbs of birdshot. Unfortunately, 3 weeks ago when I was riding along at about 55mph the lower front sidecar mount failed. Chaos ensued...the motorcycle was completly destroyed (guard rail, telephone pole, tree - oh my) - the sidecar is banged up but salvageable. So here's my question - am I making a fundamental error by attaching this car to a big bike? Am I better off putting it on something like my BMW R60/2? Thank you for the advice.

I think you would be asking for the same problem. Your R60 runs about 450 pounds and the Eldorado was about 500. I would be looking at something in the 300-350 pound range for a bike.

Sounds like a lighter tug is in order.

The Duna is a really neat sidecar, A /2 BMW while "smaller" engine wise, really is not much lighter then your Guzzi, My wife runs an Eldorado, neat bikes, great sidecar bikes, The Duna frame is fairly stout, If you increase the track width, it will help alot. The first sidecar we had on my wifes Eldorado was a really early Kenna, she did not like the looks of this sidecar and as the early Kenna sidecars were made by a company other then ours, it had no suspention. The Kenna worked pretty well on this bike, the next sidecar was an early California Companion sidecar, just about as light as the Duna, it worked well once we mounted 140lbs of steel under the chassis. If you like the Guzzi, I would go with another or, what would be fun given your sign in would be a Ducati single. I have never done the Ducati single but it sure would be a neat set up with the Duna. If you want to put your Guzzi back together, we have a fair amount of spare parts for the Eldorado around the shop however 2 weeks ago, we sold enough parts to build 3 bikes so no where near the spares as we once had.
