Stella 150 w/sidecar
I am considering the purchase of a new Stella 150 with sidecar attached. Does anyone have an opinion of this scooter, dependability, power, etc. I would be using the scooter to transport grandchildren for short rides.
The local Scooterville dealer has that set up. He used a Cozy (Globe) sidecar. I've seen it on thje street and while you won't be getting any speeding tickets, it seems to go along quite well. It is limited because the hack is small and the top speed is moderate. It would make a fine "around the neighborhood" scoot; good for runs to the grocery and the ice cream stand. My concerns are not with the Stella but with the quality of the sidecar. The cozy I saw was a bit rough. The welds looked primative and the paint was just adequate. Also, in driving the rig you need to be conscious of the fact that the sidecar is very light and could come up easily on right turns.
I had a Globe lo these many years ago... build quality was OK, but the mounting was "universal", which means it fit nothing without proper hardware to mount the bolts to the frame. The scooter mounting I've seen in pictures has one strut going uner and attaching somehow to the frame. Seems crazy to me, but there's no frame per se to mount to. I wouldn't worry about the SC being too light, as I'm sure it must weigh AT LEAST a third or more as the scooter. Short wheel base and tiny wheels could be more fun (?!) than a barrel of monkeys. Someone else was asking about that set-up less than a year ago, I think. Wonder how (s)he did? They were surprised that it was harder to push around in the garage, as I recall. There seems to be several Vespas from India on Ebay all the time, too.
