some kind of a body?
I am looking for something to use as a sidecar (something that looks like a side car that I could modify (seat etc) to fit on my chassis, Any suggestions as to what might work and where I could get something. I currently have a steel cargo boxed mounted but want something more like a sidecar. Maybe some has an old body (wood, metal, fiberglass etc ) that I could purchase.

two thoughts. One is a car-top ski carrier or cargo carrier. The other thought is an old fuel barrel. Not the round ones, the oval shaped ones. Local fellow cut one down and rolled the ends over as a sidecar body. Looked very Ural-ish when done.
How 'bout an old terlit? Bolt it to a section of plywood with some old grungy linoleum for a deck....magazine rack....paper holder....
I've always wanted to mount an old bumper car body on a sidecar chassis, and if you can find an old Air Force drop tank or drogue, well, DAMN!!! Picture it... WOW!
Actually I posted awhile back about this. I was at an auction where old amusement park rides were being unloaded. The bumper cars were MONSTERS!!! Lots bigger when you really start looking at them.
There were some really cool little mushrooms, from a kiddie ride, and I think they could be made to work....but they were being sold in lots, and I couldn't justify having half a dozen little shrooms in the shop.
Still looking though....and still looking for a H-D frame.

Sidecar bodies can be made from many things.
Have seen them made from two large trash cans welded end to end, two fenders off of a studebaker truck (ugly but clean), one of those tanks for a well (the blue ones), various plywood creations, a bathtub, various carnival rides, drop tanks, all kinds of cargo boxes, etc. One guy cut a truck cap into a bunch of pieces and glassed them back together for a coach type body.
It is fun to begin 'seeing' sidecar bodies as we look around. Be carefull who you share it with as people will look at you kinda funny...but I suppose we do get used to that.
If you are into doing fiberglas work look for sidecar body 'molds'. These can include bathtubs (the cast iron clawfoot tubs make an excellent durable mold. (Do two and connect top and bottom). Car top carriers being plastic can make a mold too but must be braced well.
See attached picture for bumper cars etc.

Love the suggestions! now where do I find an old drop tank? I will try the snowmobile dealers to
see if they have any old bodies. Thanks Jim in Denver
There are literally tons of aircraft and aircraft parts out in the Mohave desert. I'm sure there are parts brokers. Maybe ebay.
Jim - try Gurnsey Training site... I traded some blasting cap display material for some training bombs and a fuel pod once, while TDY there.

*or was that Thermopolis, WY...
Smith and Edwards Surplus just North of Ogden Utah. They have drop tanks and much much more in their yard. They get their stuff from Hill Air Force Base in Ogden. Maybe an F16 canopy?
Believe it or not I found a place here in Denver near the site of the old Stapleton Airport. He says
he has drop tanks so I going to visit him next week. I have no Idea what size I am looking for but will probably know it when I see it. Any Suggestions as to size?I will keep you informed o what happens if it happens. Jim in Denver

When you look at some of the pictures previously posted notice that the end is cut off to shorten the drop tank. I am guessing that the diameter is what would be important and the lenght of the original tank could then be modified in need be.
I know of one a fellow took a Ski-Boose snowmobile tow-behind sled for the bottom and a Polaris snowmobile hood that works real well. He tugs it with a CX500 Honda. Just an idea.

......and a coffin....always thought a coffin would make a cool tub.....there's a field behind my house with at least a few hundred buried in only about 8 ft. of dirt....
