Its a matter of odds. There are probably only 1 sidecar rig in the country for every 30,000 motorcycles. (that statistic is a guess, not a fact). So the odds of seeing a sidecar at all is pretty low. I live in a town of 30,000 people and have one of only two sidecars in the town.

Wow, really? how come I've never seen people riding one T_T

Because they aren't all that common. 🙂

In the US/Canada, a motorcycle or motorcycle/sidecar is generally considered a 'recreational vehicle', not a daily driver.. there are exceptions of course, but sidecars in North America aren't all that common to begin with.

I know of *2* sidecar rigs that i see on a semi regular basis, in summer, in a region with 13 million people.. there may be more out there, but it's a safe bet that they rarely see the light of day from the back of their owner's garage..

Some police departments still use sidecar rigs. Last time I was in Columbus they had them but that was a few years ago.
Funny but after you get a sidecar you may seem to see them a little more often. Still pretty scarce though.

I ive in a town of 8000 people and there are at least 10 rigs withinn 5 miles of me. one owner lives just a block away, another is 1/2 mile away, another is 3 miles away. see them very regularly. at 2 wheel tuesday bike gatherings there are sometimes 6 or 7 there for the evening.

Bob's sidecar is a Motorvation Formula II sidecar. There is one of them in the forum's classifieds currently at http://www.sidecar.com/megabbs/thread-view.asp?threadid=3814&posts=1

Chris:

I'm not exactly sure of what you are meaning, but if you are referring to Claude's link with various pictures of sidecars in action with 'adults' in the chair, keep in mind his link is of mostly competition sidecar rigs in Europe, engaged in Rally Racing. A child doesn't have the weight to throw around in the sidecar to keep the thing planted on the ground.. not to mention it's likely illegal to race with a child in the chair. 🙂

Of course, children, pets etc are common passengers in a sidecar.. a lot of people buy them specifically to entertain the grand-children.

Some weird guys like me, carry a skeleton in them 🙂

So... people like 19~22 (college students), they don't really ride sidecars? I'm not talking about racing, just in the streets.

Absolutely. Not as many young folks as us old farts, but many of the members here are under thirty. My daughter owns a sidecar and her 14 year old son is already talking about what his will be.
