Hello Friends,

yesterday I returned from freezing Calgary "Gulag" and am back in Costa Rica where my Ural waits. In 9 weeks I saw in total 5 bikes at some impressive temperatures on dry roads.....shiver...without the offset support. No bike rental available up there in this part of the year and sidecars even less to find.

Welcome home Sven... so you had no internet service in the frozen "gulag"? We missed your stories and comments.

In deed Jan,

it was bloody cold and free time was extremely rare. 5 afternoons in 9 weeks I saw some nature. Lake Louise was my first walk on ice since 2002. and a few escapes on Sunday afternoons into the foot hills. Rest was handling wrenches SW7mm up to SW65mm in a huge factory building from dark to dark. 5 bikes I saw in the whole time on the streets, temperatures went down to -31ºC (-24ºF). Only a few comments I did this time on (soviet steeds) and dreiradler forum, where we are several "wrenchers" who talk about their way of make a living out of the suitcase. Next duty turn will be supposedly in Chihuahua country, before I need to return to Calgary for final fine tuning.

Today on our 32nd marriage anniversary I do my time sheets... what an inappropriate entertainment for the better half. Once done we will hit the road on 2 wheels to a thermal spring. I need some heat to warm up the frost bitten bones. After this duty turn I do know again why I left Germany back in 1988/89.

Sven

here it is a bit different. At the end of the year we might be able to toast our first own cup of coffee (for more it will not work out) and we might make some jam from killerfig fruitstges day of perfect summer. .

It must have been an interesting trip to Gulag! I love seeing the snow and being in the cold weather.

I just came back Saturday from another Gulag duty tour, this time into the Chihuahua desert..... That was a good one only 8 days a damn dry heat, and who knows how many days writing report will wait for me.  I got already a new invitation to Calgary...I need to hurry up with my typing.

And I had a short look for my coffee beans. The heavy rain knocked of many of them, but a few are now 1/8" in diameter.... Will they last until December for to give us one cup of coffee?
