Rd400 with a velorex sidecar
Does this combo seem like it will work? I'm a diehard 2 stroke guy and have a sidecar already. Looking to put the two together. Just wondering how the handling will be. I have the rig on a wide glide but it seems like too much bike for the light sidecar
It will work much better on the RD400 then the wide glide, This sidecar should never have been mounted to the wide glide. I would not consider this to be a safe match up. I ran a factory installed Velorex on an MZ sliverstar gespan which is a 500cc single, Really fun little bike with the Velorex sidecar on it. The Velorex works great on smaller bikes, not so much on large bikes. The Velorex was designed for a 350cc two stroke bike. You will want to make a sub frame for this set up in order to get good spacing on your lower mounts. On the front lower it looks like there are two bolts that allow the frame to be taken apart, This is a good point to attach a sub frame to. If the bike has a center stand you can remove the center stand and use its mounts as a pick up point for the lower rear mount. You want to try and keep the lower rear and lower front mount the same distance from the ground. If one must be higher then the other it works best if the front is the higher of the two so that when you adjust your lean out it will not move your toe in the wrong way.
