After the commercial is a video of a newscast of a pet adoption event that my GF is a volunteer for. My sidecar with my Rott as passenger, who is an an adoptee, can be seen at the 2:00 mark.

Adoption and Rescue are GOOD STUFF! I'm into the Irish Setter rescue network here, and all except one of my mutts are rescues or pound pups.Anybody considering a dog should DEFINITELY check out the local Humane Society or rescue group... after a dog has been there for a little while s/he really realizes that they've gotten LUCKY when you take them home, and they're VERY GRATEFUL for it! When I worked nights I never had to worry about the Old Lady's safety; our old adoptee Shane would have tried his damnedest to tear apart ANYBODY who messed with HIS humans!Rescue groups are usually organized for specific breeds, so if you know what you're looking for an internet search is going to be the way to go... for example, a Google on IRISH SETTER RESCUE will put you where you want to be.Rescue dogs come from either voluntary owner surrenders to the group, or dogs who suddenly find themselves in a crisis situation (owner passed away and no one to care for them, etc.). A dog across the country can often be matched to you; I was involved with getting a Dalmation from northern Minnesota to Tennessee (breed rescue groups tend to cooperate on these things). Rescue group members headed to dog shows simply take the rescue pooch along, and pass him to another rescue member headed in the right direction. We got the Dalmation at an Eau Clare Wisconsin dog show, kept him at our place for one night's rest in Madison, Wisconsin, and the next day took him to another show in Chicago, where he was passed on to another show attendee who took him as far as Indianapolis! The pooch had a disposable camera with him, and everyone who gave him a lift added another photo of his journey.
