One less White Tail in SE Michigan.
If you crack one of them critters open they sure are full of poop.
Had a small one probably 100# or so run out in front of me yesterday (60mph) and I barely had time to brace for impact. When you ride in an area like this you think about how you will handle it when it happens. But it ain't like that. You tell yourself you'll just drive straight through it and come out the other side. I've hit three with 4 wheelers but this is different.
Never thought about the fact that the darn thing will be running full out not standing still. When he hit the front wheel (coming from the left0 the wrenching action on the bars was violent. Took it about a quarter turn to the stop. Fortunately when in this particular area I make it a point to always have both hands on the bars, just in case of this sort of thing.
Even with the weight of my Ultra, had I not had the side hack, it would have been much worse. It happens so fast I'm sure I would have gone down.
Bent the heck out of the front fender, which scraped the heck out of the sidewall of my new tire, got the light bar, tweaked the fork, ripped out the break line to the hack on its way under the rig, and completely covered the front of my bike with POOP. That's just the stuff you can see at a glance.
I hope all the nice things I've heard about Progressive are true.
We caught one in Canada a couple of weeks ago on a trip to the Canadian Rockies.
Three lane road, we were in the fast lane at 75 MPH. Oncoming traffic hit the deer (a large doe) which ended up laying crossways in our lane.
Noone would give way so our choices were hit it straight on or dive into the median. I opted for the former and the front strut of the Liberty caught it, we went airborne and landed still in our lane OK. A bit later Judy gave me a thumbs up and we went on our way. No damage to the bike or hack but there was a hellove mess to clean up of guts, blood, poop and hair after we got back home 5 days later. It had cooked on pretty well while we were in the Canadian Badlands. Judy did say that it didn't smell all that good either when we were stopped. A do it yourself car wash in Drumheller didn't help much in cleaning the mess off. It took a couple hours of pressure washer, brush and rubbing compound.
A week later a 64 year old guy on a Harley solo caught a downed deer near Couer d'Alene, Idaho. he died on the spot.
Three wheels may have saved our day.

Whew! I'm glad both of you are OK. Deer are traffic hazards and vermin. I've had close calls in the dark when the darn things jumped out in front of me. Luckily they kept going or turned around - there's no way I could have avoided them.
May you never have to do it again.
The county I live in has several hundred road kills a year so it is a constant hazard around here.
When one comes out in front of you it's like having a 200# squirrel in the road, you never know what it will do.
I'm certain that big outrigger saved my hide.
