Old chair--new bike

Hi Folks,

I haven't been around for a bit--I've been working on and riding my '77 XS650 Yamaha/Spirit of America combination. Well, after trying to keep up with some baggers while going over passes in the Cascade Mountains, I stumbled on a wonderful deal on a BMW R80/8. I plan to modify the mounts (already modified from those fitting the original Harley) to fit the Beemer.

My question is simple: does anyone run a lightweight chair with an airhead Beemer? Any tricks or secrets I should know before I dive headlong into this? I plan to keep the chair on the XS for the Fall, and this winter convert it to the Beemer.

Wanna know the best part? (I got the Beemer for $500.00!! Seriously!) (Do you suppose my Karma is irreparably damaged?) 🙂

Thanks, Everyone. I don't post much, but I've learned a lot checking out the site...

The Spirit will work with ballast or monkey but the Beemer will need sub-framing to handle the chair since they lack the double loop frame the Yamaha has and only two small (8)mm) bolts support the rear sub-frame of the Beemer. Not enough to support even the light Spirit car.
