Hey all,

Been several weeks since I have been on, have had alot going on with my wife (medical) and my rig. We finally brought it home last Saturday, all I can say is WOW!!! A sidecar rig is as everyone says alot different that a two wheeler for sure. I love my rig, and I owe many many thanks to Perry's Motorcycles and Sidecars of Fort Worth Texas. Perry recommended a Ural car as it is metal rather than plastic and could be easily modified to meet the special needs of my disabled wife. And of coarse since I am a Harley man we had to change about everything but the frame and tub to meet my requirements. I know have a one off, one of a kind rig. I have put on about 150 miles so I have alot to learn yet, but am loving every minute of and so is my wife!! Once I figure out how to post pictures I would like to show everyone my rig. I want to thank each and everyone who has helped me out with questions, suggestions and all encouragement. People on this forum are very helpful. I can hardly wait for the next bike event around here in Texas so I can do alittle showing off!! WOOOO HOOOOO !!!!

Congrats Jim on your new rig! I've seen a couple of Perry's setups and they have always looked top notch.

You can add a picture by checking the box next to "Attach a file to this thread after posting?"

Jim, I'm happy that you are enjoying your new rig. The boxes should be right under the box you write your message in. What I see there is:

Notify you whenever this thread is updated?
Include signature in this post?
Disable HTML in this post?
Attach a file to this thread after posting?
Preview message before posting?

And the 4th box needs a check. The pictures are limited in size. If that doesn't work you can also put them in an album. The Album tab is in the upper line at the top left of this page.

Nice looking rig! dunno' about the eagle on the back though... he seems to be sick; his tonsils are blue!
8^D

Was the tub cut-out like that as one of the modifications? I can see where that'd make it easier to enter/exit compared to the one on my (far as I know) stock set-up. Like the arm rests too. Disc sidecar brake - linked to one side of the front?

Congrats!

Hi Tony,

That eagle is a "boy" eagle for sure! LOL. The cut out was modified larger to accomodate the ease of entry/exit. The disc was one on my many upgrades as well, Jay Brake two piston caliper and it is tee'd into the rear brake system of the bike, works great. Those "restricted" 100th emblems set it off pretty good, huh?

I have another update to share! I received my Champion sidecar EZ steer trees, installed them and WOW....what a difference! They are worth every penny spent, the steering is just like the ad says difference between manual and power sttering. Still learning but definately agree the raked trees are the way to go!! Thanks again to everyone and mostly Lonnie for all the suggestions and comments.

Hi Liz,

Nice picture!! A sidecar sure is fun, even though it's a different world with a chair attached to the bike. I do have my 98 Wideglide and a 77 Lowrider so I don't forget how to pilot a two wheeler. what model sidecar is yours? It looks very good on your Sporty!

Very cool rig!Did you do the disc brake, or the installer? I had a disc brake installed on my Ural and it doesn't work worth a darn. I beleive it is a Ural upgrade. and when the rig turns it seems to force the plunger back intoi the housing so it needs to be pumped several times to work. Effectively, doesn't work at all.Your's seems to work great?thx. and congrats!greg

Greg,

My Ural is half Harley. I had Perry (installer) remove the Ural wheel, brakes, fender, windshield, foot step and spare tire holder. He then installed a Harley sidecar fender (modified), Russel 11 inch drilled disc, Jay Brake 2 piston caliper, custom windshield and a larger step so two feet will fit on it. The brakes work fine, if I hit them hard the bike and hack tires will lock up,under normal conditions the rig stops very nicely.

Jim my sporty is 2002 1200 bought her with the intention of attaching a sidecar, always wanted one soo...why not! What else would a Trauma Nurse ride? (esp for her first bike?). My set up was pretty economical even with the body shop doing the attaching! Thankfully the universal kit was compatable with the Sportster. Just went for a joy ride today beautiful Ct fall, learning my rig while enjoying the sunshine! Ride safe, L

Liz,

Weather here in Texas is unusual for this time of year, it's 5 PM and 77 degrees! We rode to Dallas (about 40 miles) this past Saturday to a car show and Sunday to a motorcycle swapmeet. I'm still learning my 3 wheeler too, nothing better than the open road, roar of a Harley engine, great weather and scenery (sp). Trama nurse! Thanks for being there, never know when one of us "organ doners" are gonna need ya!! Ride safe.
Jim

others are riding minding their business and getting rammed by a ditzy driver..with us just drive safe be aware of others....PS there are 10 of us Trauma people (MD, RN, security) in our dept that ride..Ride with care, L
