That's nice. A U was a 74" IIRC. They had the same crankpin as a 61" Harley. I never owned one but I've worked on them. I owned three '42 WLA's, two Knuckleheads, although they were called Big Twins when had them. I also owned a 50 FL and a 35 VL and 35 or so other various British ancd other foreign bikes. This is my third sidecar. The first job I had when I was a teenager in Chicago was delivering blueprints on a Harley sidecar with a commercial box so I learned at an early age.
I still have my original Harley flywheel truing jig. LOL.
Sorry double post please delete.
I owned several Matchless and AJS 500 cc singles. I also had a 1948 BSA B31 (350cc) and a 1954 Ariel Red Hunter, A 1957 BSA Gold Star single and several Triumphs. I rode in the desert in So. Cal for nearly ten years.
Unfortunately, the prices on vintage motorcycles have gotten out of control. I'd have to put a mortgage on my house to buy anything collectible anymore. I have some nice memories, though. LOL.
What people are calling a roll over switch is that what Harley calls the bank angle sensor?
Roll over switch is the Bank angle switch.
There is an addition to this for the Harley sidecars but no one seems to use them other than Harley as they have to be configured by a Harley shop.
Harley claims the turn signals may operate and the motor may shut off if the chair is flown without their added harness.
Lonnie
I have Harley side car manuals covering from 1999 to 2009 except 2005 and I do not think I will need a bank angle switch as from all I have read it is for 2003 and later unless the TSSM has been updated which mine has not. I still have to set the TSSM but the manual shows how to do it with out taking it to a dealership. Not having to get the bank angle sensor or having to have it set is putting me about $150 closer to getting my rig set up. Lonnie have you set up many TLE on Harley s?
Thanks as I will be needing all the help I can get.
I ordered about half of what I need today. I found the part numbers for the lower fairing painted the color of my Ultra but will be the last thing I get.

The Roll over switch is an HD accessory that locks out the standard Bank Angle Sensor. As you say, the engine can shut off when the chair is lifted. It can also actuate in a hard, fast corner with the standard Bank Angle Sensor. This is because it uses a mechanical pendulum that will shut down the engine when exercised to 45 degrees left or right. In a hard corner, centrifugal force will cause the pendulum to activate even though the machine is still vertical. When the TSSM (turn signal/security module) is moved while held in the hand, it's possible to hear the pendulum move inside.
As far as I know, HD is the only company that uses this system, although other bikes, BMW and Honda to name two, have a bank angle sensor.
I have a Blue Streak BDM PRO and wonder if I can do the configuring with it? I will have to do some checking. Here is a link to the BDM I have.
http://www.bsecorp.com/products_moto_bdm_pro_kit.php
I picked it up from a shop closed in less then a year being in busniess and it was all most new.
GNM109 placed a good order from Zanotti's today. There prices are very good on large items but many of the smaller items Chicago HD is cheaper but not a whole lot.
Here is the bike I am going to put my TLE on. This is from my Alaska trip.

I tried to order something from Chicago HD once, a Harley Camplate. They backordered me and I cancelled and bought it from Zanotti's. I don't now about the price diferential. Zanotti's is usually 25% or more. On the suaddlebag latch, they have it at $61. Latus is $95 which is straight retail. .
I'm not sure at all about that Blue Streak Unit. THe Digital Technician connects to the Data Port Coinnector near the ECM. It can address all of the internal functions of all Harley Models. Since it's proprietary and not sold on the market, there's no way to compare.
What is the price on the Blue Streak ordinarily? With the Ultra, I can read codes on the radio screen and determine what they represent in my troubleshooting manual. That would be enough to diagnose an issue most of the time. As far as someone buying the BLue Streak to set the sidecar toggle, if it would work that would be good but I wouldn't buy one for that purpose alone.
Nice-looking bike!
When I bought my BDM it was the only one on the market other then Harley s. They list for around $3200 with the software but I paid less then half that and it was still under warranty when I bought mine. Had only been used a couple of times. It will do all the HD scanner will do and more. I can change the idle on fuel injection. You can test for spark at each plug to see if the ignition is working properly, it has a wiggle test, I can check the tack and speedometer to see if they are working properly, read and clear history codes in both the ECM or TSM, TSSM, if some one tries to steel it and put it in a coma I can unlock it. I can access the TSM or TSSM. You can test the fuel pump and injectors. It has a amp volt ohm meter. I can hook it up to a computer and do a print out. I can run real time reading RPM, temperature and so on. I have not used it a lot but have used it enough if I had to pay the dealership it paid for its self. I all so have the software to use it on my car.
Now the draw back they only have software for up to 2005 Harley s but will work on both carburetor and fuel injection up to 2005. If I was to buy one now I would get the Techno Research.

That's interesting. Can it reset the TSSM for the sidecar function? That would really be the only use I would have for it.
If you are working on bikes for a living, I could see the value if it. On the other hand, HD is changing sorftare on a periodic basis so it would be difficult to keep up. For that kind of money I'd probably buy another banjo. LOL.
Here are a few shots of one room in my basement and my little garage. If I had all the money I have in hand tools, machines, specialty tools, measuring instruments and parts I could buy 4 or 5 new Ultras. LOL But I have been collecting for 40 years. I need to get off my butt and set my lath back up as I moved it and have not set it back up.

This is something I need to check on. I know I can get into the TSSM but not sure if I can set the sidecar function. If I am not mistake on my 02 I can set the TSSM sidecar function by the ignition switch and turn single buttons or so it says in the manuals I have.
If I was to by a diagnostic scanner now this is the one I would get and it is MUCH cheaper then the BDM. But it was not on the market when I bought my BDM. http://www.technoresearch.com/Products/VDSTS-Motorbike/VDSTS-Motorbike
Well, I also have some tools. Here are a few of them:
1987 Taiwanese Enco 7" X 12" Horizontal/vertical bandsaw and Lincoln SP 175 PLus MIG welder.
1987 Taiwanese Webb 10" X 50" Vertical Milling Machine. (3,500 pounds!) This is a three-phase machine so I built a rotary phase converter to provide 240 VAC three phase for the motor. The rotary phase converter is the unit to the right of the machine.
Some of the Tooling for the Webb Mill.
Home-built 3' X 2' X 6' (inside) Powder coat oven. This pulls 12,000 watts and will hold 550 degrees F. Only 375 degrees F. are needed usually. (Oxy-Acetylene welding rig in the rear). The oven is large enough to powdercoat a motorcycle frame.
1994 Enco 13" X 40" lathe.
2006 Miller Syncrowave 200 Square Wave TIG Stick welding machine with liquid cooling unit. .
Oops, I almost forgot the bead blaster and the Cyclone dust collector.
I've also got an oiriginal 1938 HD flywheel truing jig and HD 1930 spoked wheel truing jig and too many other micrometers and measuiring tools to mention. So, like you, I also like tools. LOL.
