New to sidecaring
HI brad,
I see that you attached a velorex 700 to your guzzi.
I strongly advice you to replace the original wheel and axle by stronger ones.
With a fast or rough riding style they will bend.
Greetings,
Ingmar
Ingmar,
Out of hundreds of Velorex's we've sold in the last decade with the 15mm axles, we've had only one (1) customer complain of a bent axle. He had his 700 mounted on a '83 Gl1100 dresser and had struck a curb to bend it. I offered to send him a new swing-arm with axle shaft but he opted to have the axle straightened at a machine shop and is still running it to my knowledge.
For heavy use and off-road we do use a retrofit swing-arm with 1" axle, modular wheel and better leveraged shock for a stable riding rig. The main limitation with the stock 15mm suspension is the mushy ride that seriously limits aggressive driving.

Ha! I thought he was talking about the Guz!
BTW- what's a MZ with a Rotax?! Custom? Where are you and tell me more, please- if you can figure out PMs...
Hi Lonnie,
Maybe we thread our sidecars a bit rougher here in europe, we sure are allowed to go a bit faster.
I have seen and heard ofter of bending axles from a velorex.
I don,t think the wheel or axle will break off but remember that the velorex originally was designed for a 250cc engine? with a weight of about 120kg?.
With an easy riding style there will be no problems at all.
I replaced my wheel and axle by one from a suzuki GS400.
An 17mm axle with 16inch wheel and the original breaking drum can still be used.
Greetings,
Ingmar
