new rider experience
Picked up new rig Saturday morning at CSM. Had to practice right turn, left turns, stops and figure 8's along with getting wheel up once 🙂 . Then back to shop followed by solo on Claude's "official survival loop". If you come back alive and with minimal dents, you pass! Added 80# bag of concrete to trunk and left for home -45 miles. Then rode another 60 miles with wife in car 🙂 . 2000 Vulcan Classic with stock front end, 6.5" trail and Dunlop 195-60-16 on rear. Observations: Minor head shake around 25-30 but not worth steering damper at this point-get used to it after about 20-30 miles. Hard turns at low speed require some effort. Uphill under hard acceleration has fairly strong pull to right. Sweeping right turns under acceleration is Great. Sweeping left turns seem to work best by accelerating into turn and then a little front brake pulls you right thru. Minor twisties seem to be no problem even at 10-15 mph over posted speed. Watch SPEED BUMPS--got hung up once at School--take slow and on an angle 🙁 . Very minor bicep ache Monday morning but then again not bad for 64 and out of shape. Probably won't change rake unless it gets to difficult for wife to handle. All in all , I am TOTALLY HOOKED 🙂 Thanks again to Claude, Dave and crew for excellent Job. It was worth the wait!
These are just my views-ymmv.
Added finished photos to previous post "another new guy".
Take it easy, partner. Give yourself more saddle time. 15 over posted can get you in real trouble if you get too overconfidant. A reduced radius turn could be your last one.
Front brake is normally used with throttle for control in right turns, rear brake (if any ) on left turns. Slow down in, accelerate out works for me.

You are correct on all points. I should have mentioned that these are roads I am familiar with and can see thru so I guess they aren't much of a turn afterall 🙂 Thanks for the advise.
