New Here
Hello to all, new to this forum and a complete rookie when it comes to side car rigs. I have been on to wheels most all my life but never driven a sidecar rig. I have been reading lots of info here and really enjoy all the stuff I am learning from you all. I found this forum in a round about way as I think I am going through the midlife crisis of motorcycles (at least I'm not tryin to trade the wife in for a younger model right?) I sold my Harley FLH (the only bike I ever owned so long out of many) thinking to change to something different/do a different type of riding maybe. Bought a real nice BMW 1200 ADV and after a few months found it did not scratch the itch so now thats up for sale. In the mean time, my youngest daughter made an off hand comment about a sidecar and well you know......the wheels started turnin, sorry no pun intended. So here I am after doing lots of research about sidecar rigs (at least as much as my inept computer skills allow) thinking that perhaps a threewheel rig might provide the change/thrills/challenge I am seeking. Who knows as of yet since I can do nothing until I move the beemer as I can not afford more than one bike in the garage. Anyway, after this long winded intro, feel free to give any insight you feel as to perhaps a change from two wheels to three. And if there is anyone near the tampa/ruskin/sun city area that would like to have a lunch or something, I would be happy to buy, for a chance to pick your brain and maybe con you into a ride in the chair! Until then thank you all, I will be living vicariously through you on this neat site.
Chris 🙂
I am in Largo, FL
Beamers make great Tugs for a sidecar. They were one of the first from what I read on this forum. You may want to keep the 1200
Thanks Richard, good to know you are close by, I will probably look you up in the near future and buy you that lunch/pick your brain!
Hi Podunk, Like you I've been riding two wheels most of my life and never thought about a sidecar until the knees went south a couple of years ago. However, I've had so much fun with the hack that I dont think about two wheels anymore. I'll welcome you to the club in advance as I"m sure if you ride a rig you'll have one soon.
Being born and raised in North Tampa i felt I couldn't resist saying hello and welcome to the madness. We are now located in Pa. but miss Florida sometimes. No doubt Richard McClure and others will become friends of yours pretty quickly.
The 1200 GS makes a great sidecar tug when done right. We have two under construction right now. They need a good subframe of course and the CANBUS wiring needs to be dealt with. A Rear car wheel conversion is p[retty straight forward if that is desired. We won't do any dual sport type bike without an antiswaybar on it though.
Thanks Bob and Claude. Claude, if you ever get down this way please let me know, it would be a pleasure to meet you. I plan on making aquaintance with Richard when I can get my crazy schedule to slow down a bit!
