My Hannigan Astro 2+2 has been Completed – BUT !!!
Hi to all SideCar members around the world,
Wanted everyone to know in the SideCar community, that the rebuilding of my 1996 Hannigan Astro 2+2 SideCar along with attaching / aligning it to my 1996 Honda GoldWing GL1500SE is “NOW” complete.
Would I rebuild a Hannigan Side Car or any SideCar again….. The answer is “YES”….. Was it FUN… Learned a Hell of a lot about SideCars in a short time. Mnn I an Expert… Not by a long shoot…..
In eleven months, thirty-five suppliers across the country, tons of emails, lots of questions and lots of hours on the Internet; these suppliers along with outstanding members of the SideCar community, supplied me with lots of education / knowledge on the little things on “How to Repair” items like Fiberglass, Plexiglas, Powder Coating, Electrical, Washers, Bolts, Bushings, Spacers, etc… The list can go on and on and on
Again, I want to especially give a special Thank You to everyone at Hannigan Motorsports in Murray, Kentucky for answering all of my entire questions, making all of the parts that I needed, manufacture the necessary parts and shipping me everything that I requested. Also, I wanted to give a Special Thank You to everyone in the SideCar community that sent me pointers, emails, videos, etc.
So now you say – BUT !!!
A week ago yesterday, while working on the SideCar from underneath, to remove a bolt and nut holding the seat in place, I torn or ruptured my bicep tendon on his left arm. At that time, I could not straighten out my arm (only about 80%). The Doc (Orthopedic Surgeon) put me on limit usage of my left arm (NO MOTORCYCLE – NO SIDECARS). One week later, I can now straighten it out about 90%. It is still sore to turn or pull on something, but is getting better. About 2 - 5 weeks more to go before it is heeled
So my Hannigan Astro 2+2 SideCar and Wing are standing tall in their garage, waiting on their master to get better. Yes, I have about 50 miles on the Rig… Boy - is driving a SideCars Rig FUN…..
Hope to see ya all around the country this summer, on my Rig or in a 4-wheeler.
Again, Thank You SideCar Community, I could not have done it without you
Best Buddy
P.S. If you see my wife this summer, ask her what see said to Best Buddy, when I brought the SideCar home eleven months ago in the pick-up truck ?
Hey, Buddy
I've been wondering about that rig! It's beautiful! Sorry to hear about your arm. Let it get completely well before taking out that rig. They work on your arms and shoulders - a lot! Not sure if I'll make it to the Honda Homecoming this year, but if I do, maybe I'll get a chance to see the rig first hand.
Connie
That's a SHARP looking rig! Nice work, get well and hope to see it up close at a rally.
