Intercom...
Looking for recommendations for an intercom.
My 90 Ultra has the combo radio/cb/intercom unit in it that did not work when I bought the rig. I have no real interest in a radio or cb, but would like an intercom to communicate with the sidecar.
I wear hearing aids so I can't use anything with earbuds. Any suggestions as to what I should look at or stay away from?
Comet, Kathy and I are looking at the Cardo Scala wireless headset intercoms. They use helmet speakers and a boom mike.
I found them at Jake Wilson.com for about $200/set. I wear in-ear hearing aids and the helmet speakers on our wired headsets work fine.

Jena & I use the Cardo Scala units to communicate both bike-to-sidecar and bike-to-bike. As I recall, the Teamset is good for about 15 feet and our Multiset is good for about 500 feet. They are not fool-proof and they do require charging every 8-12 hours of use, but they do work well as an intercom. I've found the intercom clarity and volume sufficient to hear the intercom over foam ear-plugs.
The plug-in feature for a radio has not proven useful as the volume is too low at speed -- I sure did want to listen to a couple of football games last fall.

late last year we bought a pair of Cardo G4 based upon the recommendation of a friend. The recharging could be a problem on long rides or if you suffer a senior moment and forget to charge up before a shorter ride. Many options to figure out (adding cell phone, gps, ipod type stuff) if you choose, but the unit worked great for bike to bike communication on a great fall ride last year. The biggest problem I can see down the road is the inability to get lost in your own thoughts when you are connected to the sidecar or by extension, to other riders.
Thanks guys, I'll check 'em out.
