HJC makes a full line of kid helmets, as do most helmet makers. Most people favor the Motocross styles and a pair of I-gogs for kids because they don't have to fight with the face shield.

Yes, we have found the HJC helmets for children. However, they are too heavy. His little head just falls over. Thought some of you would have an idea. Also, someone mentioned to us the idea of using a hockey helmet.

Hockey Helmets don't have much protection, we have a few of them that we use for kayaking. How about a snowboarder's or skateboarder's helmet? Search for ProTec. My grandson wears one on his bicycle and it seems to be a really well built helmet, especially the one that goes all the way down to the neck.

Check your state laws regarding children and helmets. Here in Idaho, anyone under the age of 18 must wear a DOT (Department of Transportation) approved helmet. My 6 year old boy prefers the full face helmet over the motocross helmet because he doesn't like the wind in his face.

Good Point! Here in Wisconsin anyone under 18 needs a DOT helmet as well.

Also talk to these folks: http://www.familymotorcycling.com/

They were at the 2004 National. Maybe they have some other options.

Thanks Steve - I've been trying to recall/find their web site. (Lost it in my computer crash.) They're good IL folks, so that's all the better 😉
