That would be my dream bike. Maybe with a 2 place Kenna or a big Armec? I haven't seen one done, but I've looked it over really well. I think the only problem would be clearing the exhaust for the lower rear mount.

Seems like you'd need something very stylised- older deco look, maybe. Swoopy. Maybe a Chris Craft-looking thing.

Could be an interesting project for sure.

What with a few New Rune's still littering the showrooms around here and driving down the prices on the used ones too it could even be much more affordable to do than an 1800 Wing.

The big issue will be related to the Sub-Frame which will have to be custom made by someone who has a good track record. Then there may be an issue with trail. It looks like the fork could have custom links made to shorten trial but would require a little investigation. If it turns out like the Wing it may even get by with stock fork trail.

One thing I would do is to route the exhaust out the left side and get rid of those funky mufflers. Perhaps use a real obnoxious BIG Can like on a Muscle Bike 😉

Made the mistake of surfing E Bay. Have always liked the Runes.I agree with your comments, if you could identify the right car, AND get it mounted, etc; sure could be awesome. David K, Claude, Lonnie, etc....surely someone has investigated this. This is the perfect time to explore the idea, I am out of work, economy is tanking, election year, etc (LOL).....

Yeah Greg,
Sounds like the right time to pursue an inexpensive project like a Rune conversion. Prices are down and the economy is up, heh, heh.
Maybe that Cargo box car of mine or similar would be a good fit. One could always fit a tank body and use cheap gas for ballast. lol

we have had people ask about these before.obviously it would be a custom install, but would probably look good with a bandito or one of our HP bodies.

Wouldn't you have to update/improve the suspension a lot? I read somewhere that the Rune only has a load capacity of about 300 to 400 pounds. I remember this as I too liked the bike, but I couldn't carry my very thin wallet with me on the bike.

That's about the same as a Harley, Honda, and even my little Guzzi. You have to remember that manufacturers understate for a safe margin and that the total weight of the sidecar is not carried by the bike, only half of it is.
To put this in perspective, According to the sticker, my kid's KZ750 Kawasaki weighs 478 pounds and has a gross of 625. That means that with a full tank of gas his accessories, rider, and passenger combined should weigh no more than 107 pounds.
