I've a 2009 H-D Ultra with a Hannigan 2+2 hack...very sweet ride...so nice that my wife has taken it over until I hack her '09H-D Deluxe. Looking at another Hannigan, just not sure which one to get. Feel it should be one of their smaller models. Hannigan does not offer a triple tree for the Deluxe so I figure that will have to be outsourced. Any suggestions for either the hack and/or triple tree.

I assume hers is a Softtail Delexe. You might check with Side Effects for tree mods.

Doc,
Looking at your post topic, I was about to say "hack for wife" sounds like a good deal.

Hi: HD Hank here-- If the bike is a softtail model you can probably use Harley adj. trees. These can be found at swap meets or can be had thru J&P cycle parts. Plus feature on these is you have two positions --one for sidecar use and can go back to solo bike use in about 10 mins. I use a set on my fxr/sputnik rig and they do the job quite well. if you want more info drop me an e-mail---- good luck

If trying to combine parts from early FLH, Softtail and FXR frontends one should take into consideration any differences that may exist in fork width, fork tube diameter and neck bearing separation distance.

OK: for what's it's worth---I've found thru use and/or measurment that the adj. trees are41mm tube size--have the same size bearings and neck pin dia. & length as an fxr-sporty- softtail or early flh. Softtails having a cast neck piece, should be able to use these without a fork stop problem. On my fxr (due to it's frame structure) I had to cut the origonal fork stops off and fab. a new one. Other than that- bolts up just fine. Hope this is helpful--It sure worked for me-both $$wise and use wise.

My '87 FXLR and '87 up Sportys had 39mm fork tubes. To my knowledge none of the FXR's had (stock) 41mm tubes. The 2006 and later Sporty's and FXD's do have larger tubes.

That being said, the trees can be shimmed down to accomodate the smaller 39mm tubes.

Sorry 'bout that--I forgot to mention that I converted my fxr over to an flh style front end back 'bout 87 or so. So yes I have 41mm tubes/16" wheel flh fenders etc.-- Didn't mean to confuse anyone- just trying to be helpful.

Thanks for the info guys, just ordered the hack for my wife...hannigan conte sport?. Really curious how steering will be w/o trail change, and then try to find adjstable tree. My wife's bike is an '09 softail deluxe. She really likes my '09 ultra classic w/ the changed triple tree and camber control, says she won't ride hers' until the install is done....so she's taken over my hack, I'll be running my goldwing until she is happy...Lonnie, her bike being an '09, does that mean she has 41mm tubes? We're off on a motorhome trip for a few weeks and do not have access to her bike..

Except for the springers, I think all the Softtails have used the 41mm forks.
