Howdy! My husband and I love to ride but since we've had our children, we're severly hampered. We love our kids but we never get to ride anymore or my husband rides while I follow in the van with the kids. No fun! We have finally decided to look into getting a sidecar so that the whole family can go together. I've been researching manufacturers and it seems that most are one-seaters. My hubby has a Harley Heritage Springer that we want to try to match up style-wise as much as possible. So far our favorites are Liberty and California Sidecars, but it seems that California side cars have been discontinued.

So, suggestions? Advice? Help? Comments?

Thank you!

You situation sounds like ours when we started our family. We found the Watsonian Oxford worked quite well for our needs. We had 3 children and there is room for 4 in the Oxford. Check out sidestrider's web site for Watsonian sidecars. We bought ours in the mid 80s, and sold it a few years ago when the kids left home. We have a lot of great memories from our family sidecar trips. They are hard to find used, but they are out there. Good luck!

Champion Daytona; California Frendship III; Hanigan Alstro 2+2 & GT, Motorvation , Kena, ELM and others have a 2 siters. + you can get creative and make something yourself. How old is your kids? For waght distribution & handling it is good idea to have 1 of the kids with adult in sidecar and another on the back of the bike.

Our son is will be 6 in July and our daughter will be 2 in May. We were planning on having me ride with our daughter in the sidecar for now, with Alex on the back behind my husband. When my daughter is older, we will take turns in the sidecar and on the back.

Thanks for the list you've already given me. I'm going to start researching them today! 🙂

I found this picture of a Watsonian Oxford mounted to a Harley Davidson Heritage Softail. They had twin girls that rode in this sidecar.

6 years old i think is little to young to be on the back of the bike unless you have some kind of restrains for him. Child can fall asleep. I use to do it for my kids. 1 of my sidecar Frendship III installed on Goldwing and I used some cords to create enclosure between driver backrest and top case. When children that small you can be in sidecar with them together. I remember seing some Hanigan sidecar modified for 3 passengers. Cargo area transformed for carrying a person.

We have a seatbelt thingy with handle bars for him. It attaches around my husband's waist and hold him onto the bik and gives him handlebars to hold onto. It's pretty cool - we bought it online; here's the link. http://www.childridingbelt.com/faq.htm
