Hello,

It's been awhile since my last post but the need for information/advice is upon me once more. I guess this post could have gone in technical but since it's also an advice issue I thought the Gen Discussion catagory might be more appropriate. I have a 1985 Interstate and on occasion have begun to run into issues finding some parts for it. My expectation is that this will only get worse with time. Since I'm going with a side car mount I expect to keep my GW for some time to come and figured a good solution was to seek a donor bike that could be tapped for the occasional part for my tug. I have in fact found one for what I believe is a reasonable price ($1200). The bike is complete, has 30K on it and, with respect to it's age, is in fairly good condition as far as wear and tear on the external parts. It does not run at present as the owner tried to located a loud tapping and had removed the carb assembly, in his attempt to determine the problem. No real issue as I did not expect to find a runing bike anyway. My concern is that while the bike I located is a 1985 GW it is an Aspencade vs. an Interstate. From what I can see, there are differences in the gauges mine is analog and the Apencade is digital. and the bags & trunk appear to be different. However, as nearly as I can tell the basic mechanics, wheels, forks, drive assy, etc. all appear to be interchangeable with my Interstate.

Would appreciate if someone with a bit more GW savy might give me some insight on the overally parts compatibility between the two different models. Much appreciated in advance.

Hi blj: If someone here can't help you, I suggest you try the folks at: Wings on the Internet - http://www.woti.org/. I found great information there when I had a GW several years ago. Good luck.

Swamp Fox, thanks for the tip on WOTI, went and left a post there as well. While I was visiting the site I went through several of the posts and have to agree w/you, the membership appears to pretty much have it together.

The 84-87 gl1200s are esentually the same bike. There will be some trim and option differances between the interstate and aspy,as well as a couple rare fuel injected models(to be avoided)but motor, body, and mechanical parts should be easly interchanged.

Ive never had any trouble finding any parts for my 83 1100,or 1000s for that matter.I wouldnt be to paniced about the 1200s

Thanks for the insight Tory. As it is I decided against the investment (and storage) of a parts bike.
