Found a tug. Looking at sidecar options.

I finally found a bike that seems to meet my needs as a tug and is cool and interesting to me to boot.

I found a nice, low mileage KZ1000P police bike. It should be big enough and has a good riding position for me. Now I need to find out which sidecars will fit. I've seen 2 on ebay. One had a Ural hack and the other had a 1960s Gould (Monza?) on it. We are looking for something largish (1.5-2 person) that fits the character of the bike.

What are my options? I don't think I'm up for buying any old sidecar and then fabricating mounts. I'd like to hear what others may have seen that works on KZ1000s and who might be able to set one up.

Thanks a bunch!

These old "Cop Shop" bikes make great tugs. The seats and heated grips are user friendly too.
A Kenna double wide would be a good match if you are looking at the new but affordable market. Not many other low priced doubles are available these days.

Thanks! The Kenna looks good and does have an attractive price. If I remember, the Ural hack I saw at a dealer years ago was big and roomy for a solo. Too bad I don't live in the PNW so I could go to Dauntless and see them side by side to compare.

Any Kenna owners on the board?

hey punk,..I have several miles on those "chipper-bikes" with Velorex 562 attached,..altho a little light, with counter weight they handled the duties quite well in the worst of conditions, my CF1 car would work well on that too. good luck with the double seaters,..I haven't seen too many around.

Thanks Crawf - it's good to know that I have options. Was there anything special or unusual about mounting the car on the KZP? I have bypassed looking at Velorex (and others) for fear they were too light. The Sputniks at Dauntless look intriguing and the price is right - but I'm still looking for a roomier ride. The sidecar will have to carry my wife and 3 chihuahaus. So far the Kenna is the only true double in my price range. I might consider a roomy solo if I could get a look at one. I'm considering a Ural/Dnepr in that size range - though I worry that the cut-out that makes getting in and out easy might be a little too easy for a pooch to bail.

Since the Urals are geting harder to come by, anybody have an opinion on a Dnepr? One like this, for instance: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Sidecar-for-H-D-Honda-BMW-Ural-Dnepr-CJ_W0QQitemZ360024002701QQcmdZViewItem?hash=item360024002701

it all depends upon you skills as a craftsman,..as a millwright,.if I need it, I fab it, and I have a complete shop at home and work,.....ural cars are roomy, and a little plexiglass door could slow the dogs on high speed exits,.., creative sectioning of the foot area with a cage top could give the dogs a seat with a view, without hindering the wife's visability or safety,..depends what you can do,or can find and adapt to your own needs,..kawi mounts are available from the old vets here for reasonable monies, and their knowledge is priceless. good luck.
