First Honest Harley Commercial
🙂 🙂
I guess Crotch rocketers, Some Beemer owners and some GL riders will be greatly amused by this.
Having owned many different Marques and several Harleys; first at 13 (36 FL Knuckle), last at 77 ('10 StreetGlide), I wasn't.
Lonnie
It's just another silly attempt to cut Harley-Davidson down. I'm not amused. If you like Japanese motorcycles, you should buy one and ride it. Like Lonnie, I started with Harley-Davidson many years ago and I'm not about to change now.
Yes, I've owned Japanese motorcycles, too, from time to time but I always came back to HD. Love them or ride something else, it's fine with me, and I suspect with Lonnie, too. 🙂

No.
I thought it was funny. A broad exaggeration, but that is what humor is.
I have always liked Harleys because of the retro look about them. 1940's technology? I love it! That's why I ride a Dnepr, a Harley wasn't weird enough for me!

I grew up with Harley Davidson's and rode them exclusively until the early 80's. I thought the clip was hilarious. In fact, the first time I saw it, it was forwarded from a local Abate officer who is as pro Harley as anyone I've ever met. I find it interesting that everything is always fair game for ridicule except HD. Every time someone even hints at a Harley joke it brings out the accusations of bashing.
Lighten up and have a laugh. It's good for the soul.
Potato,,, Potato,,, Potato,,, Potato,,,Ahhhh,,,music to the ears that will calm the nerves of disgruntled Harley lovers 🙂
The commercial didn't make me laugh, nor did it amuse me, nor did it upset me. I saw it as a waste of someones time to produce it, but hey, it wasn't MY time wasted.
I've owned 'em all, but nothing makes me smile and enjoy my ride like my Harley does. I've had 5 or 6 other bikes in the garage, along with my Harley, all in the last year, the Harley sees the most road time. And it's NEVER broke down like all the metric riders accuse them of doing. I'll ride anything with 2 wheels, but I often thank God for my Harley. It's the only bike I've kept longer than the Honda GW 1800 I had for 9 months.
It's all good. I've had this Harley for 5 years, so that tells you something. I don't normally keep a car/truck longer than 2 years !

People may ridicule Harley-Davidson all they want. I don't have any of their stock. It's just that I have a set of memories that are forever intertwined with the Motor Co. When I was a kid, the only transportation I had was a Harley 45" bike that I paid $25 for. The first real job I had was riding a sidecar delivering blueprints. That was before cell phones, faxes and computers.
When I first rode a motorcycle, somewhat before the Japanese and other foreign motorcycle invasions, there were for the most only Harley, Indian and the Britiish bikes with a few BMW's here and there. The Harley riders hated the Indian riders and their bikes; the Indian riders hated the Harley riders and their bikes. Both the Harley riders and the Indian riders scoffed at and ridiculed the British bike ridera and the British bike riders hated all of the other riders. So this is nothing new. The beat goes on with each new generation.
One thing I've always liked about HD's in general is that they are very easy to work on. You cannot appreciate the difference until you've done a few top end overhauls on Japanese bikes with a single or dual overhead cam setup. They can be simply daunting. I prefer old time technology. It gets the job done at 65 mph which is my general limit.
I got tired of lawyer jokes, too.
I ride a springer and I thought it was hilarious 🙂
Been riding Harley s none stop for 40 years but have owned other bikes along with my Harley s. I have put many care free miles on my Harley s and the only bandanna I use is in my pocket to blow my nose on. I do not have any tattoos and do not want one. Yes I have a leather vest I wear sometimes with pins on it but most of the pins are from places I have ridden to. I have many friends that ride other brands and have no problem riding with them. I like all motorcycles and the motorcycle does not make the man the man makes the motorcycle. What is the number one selling imported motorcycle in Japan? Harley! I have all so worked in many different independent shops where we worked on all brands and all I will say is if it is man made it is going to mess up sooner or later. I remember when the other brands said they would never make a v twin and now what is there biggest seller?
I admire and enjoy watching all brands of motorcycles and sidecars. For my own personal bike, I will always have at least one Harley-Davidson. Like 46u, it goes back a long way with me. When I'm on my Harley, I'm 14 years old again.
I also like the fact that Harley-Davidson is one of the few companies that make and market their own sidecar. I'm aware of Dnepr, Ural and a couple of other's from PRC but HD has always had them gong back close to 100 years now.
Despite what is said on the commercial in question, the modern Harley-Davidson is an even- tempered machine. They handle fairly well, well enough to have people put millions of miles on them with relative ease.
As far as maintainability, the people who seem to have trouble with their Harleys are the ones who persist in modifying the engines. They install hot cams, bore them out, stroke them and then complain when they fail. Go figure. If they are left stock, most of them will go quite a ways without major work.
Other bikes that I like a lot in particular are the Goldwings and the BMW's. I also like most any modern touring bike from the big four Japanese. We are fortunate in this day and age to have machines that are so reliable.
Ride what you want. Just ride. And if you want to make fun of Harleys, it's OK with me. You either own one or you don't.
It's not a commercial. It's a parody. Take it for what it is....
I have found out most that talk bad about a Harley never owned one and many of those that have owned one and talk bad about them had a 20 year old Harley that every buddy and the brother has messed with and they expect it to run like a new Honda. I have a VERY good friend that has owned MANY Harley s as well as 7 or 8 BMW and even a couple of Gold Wings. He is headed to Alaska for his third time in about two weeks. He has a new Harley a BMW and 1988 Harley with over 220k on it that's been pulling a Watsonian Cambridge which is a big sidecar for over 100K. Guess which one he will be taking to Alaska with his young son in the sidecar? Yes I am sorry to say the 1988 Harley had to have a new motor put in at 192K and the transmission had to be gone through at 210K. I will not go into how his other bikes held up compared to his Harley s. Like I said anything man made can mess up. I lake all brands and agree if you ride really ride then it does not matte what you ride.
