Finding proper car tire.
Have just joined this forum and have also just ordered my first side car. Have read many posts about tire wear. Does anyone know how to determine if a car tire will work on my 2002 Yamaha V-Star Custom 1100. Also any information of where to get tree for 6 degree rake.

Side Effects in canada can modifie your existing trees,or Mortons and seegercycle offer trees for the 1100. i think pacific coastt star may also have trees for these. As far as a tire,I ran a pirelli mt66 and averaged about 15000 miles from them. The custom uses a 15 inch wheel and most of us will recomend agaist using a car tire on them.
Thanks for the info Dave. Why do most recommend not using car tire on 15 inch rims ?

The rim seat diameters are not the same. The 15" motorcycle rims have a larger diameter than auto rims and extreme pressure may be needed to seat the bead. Enough to damage the tire bead or casing by stretching it to the limits of failure when mounting or perhaps later down the road causing a crash. Some still attempt this and claim success, others have been severely injured or worse. It's a dice toss.
The 16" cycle and auto tires are very close to the same diameter so they are able to be mounted without this problem.

Thanks for the info. I was about to actually try it on my bike but I now won't as I have a 15" rim
On the Shadows and V-stars the pirelli mt66 is available in a 180/70-15, this is slightly wider, and just a bit shorter than the stock 170/80-15. this will slightly lower your overall gearing for better take-off power and give very good milage. I ran 28 psi in the rear,32 in the front and 28 in the sidecar tire(155/80-12) with good wear on all.the mt66 fronts were lasting about 20000 miles on my v-star1100. hope some of this helps.
BFG 155/60/15 here,..no issues in 2 seasons and 22 000kms, ..do your research, safety first, cheers. crawf
