Sorry, Guys, I just couldn't pass this one up.

Lonnie.

Hey Lonnie,
They treated that with penicillin, right?

I read this thread and had a lot of smiles. My wife does not like m/c in any form....and its been that way for me for 39 lonely years...Along comes this dog -Sasha - into our lives and i knew she would take to the chair. Boy, did she ever....i canNOT start that bike up w/o her or i will hear about it. She is a great friend and ridin' buddy. I do think the windshield is important...she knows enough to get behind that when the speed gets up there. She can only stand the doggles for 20 min. or so....and they have to come off. I always pick her up into and out of the car...(paint)....she always wears her harness which i tether to the seat bottom.....she can only go so-far forward if adjusted correct.

When we started out, i kept speed way back until we were back home, and each time, got faster, went farther... just a pretty logical routine. Someone else said, "dog would walk on fire if asked"...that made me grin cuz' Sasha; and I think most dogs trust their buds and have an undersatisfied sense of adventure about them...so they are eager to go and at least for me make my adventure so incredibly wonderful.

That all said, i know dogs also can be real opinionated based on first experiences, ie...if you think she/he is at all stressed...stay in the driveway......just get her used to things before you head out. Another tip i would relate would be to make this a one-on-one exercise, soft reassuring convo will be the ticket towards bliss. Bless you both.!
Leo

P.S. Lonnie....i had that same dish in saigon...'67.....!!

Timely discussion as I'm now working with Maddie. We made our 3rd and longest ride today, about 30 minutes in the neighborhood up to 35mph, the last 10 minutes with Doggles for the 1st time. Maddie wears a halter with a "floor" strap hooked under her chest -- good thing as she still wants to chase every squirrel/cat she sees. And she did lose her balance in one left turn, but her riding skills are improving with every ride.

Here's the link to a photo of Maddies introduction to the sidecar recently added to the Albums: http://www.sidecar.com/megabbs/photos/show-album.asp?albumid=407¤tpos=1

Wanted to send this link I found on the Adventure Rider site- I think all dog lovers will enjoy it for multiple reasons and lets me put my plug in for animal rescue- if you are seeking a companion pet, you should never need to buy from a pet store!! There is a rescue for most any breed imaginable (even Bouviers, Lonnie)- just Google it!

Anyway, check this out- it makes me smile every time! Make sure you are not on mute - the music adds to it: http://www.bobaji.com/videos.html

Kudos to you for assuring eye safety!!! Is your dog a pointer? He looks cool in there- great photos! I am not sure if you have had a chance to read all the tips about dogs in cars, but after reading the safety tips here, I am not sure securing the dog with that type of collar is a safe option. I have used pinch collars in the past and would be very concerned in an accident, quick stop or tough turn you could asphyxiate the pup &/or hurt his neck pretty badly with the prongs. Just a thought. Harnesses seem to be the recommendation.

Murphy and I got back from a quick ride a little earlier today. It was hot, and the temp is supposed to bt 92 degrees tomorrow. Nothing in the world like a good sidecar dog to ride with. Especially if he is a chick magnet. 🙂

Murphy can actually see out from them, as they have little pin holes in them that are not easily seen by others. I went on a trip out of town without him, yesterday. I found myself looking at every store for some more, unique glasses or such for him to wear. He is a hoot and a great riding pal. Took pics of him near my Texas flag the other day. It is a pleasure to have such a good riding pal for my Ural.

He reminds me of Mr. Peabody and Sherman from the Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoon series. Since my pedestrian slicer says Time Machine, it is perfect to have a professor look-alike on board as we zip back in time together. 🙂 If you can pull up youtube videos, here is one that comes to mind.

I bought my sidecar just for the purpose of giving the dog rides, the day i brought my English Bulldog puppy home, i started up my bike and the dog went nuts ( in a good way ), she ran up to the bike and keep sniffing around and looking back at me like...."hey when do i get to go" lol
since that day, we joked around about getting a sidecar for her....well i happen to find one shortly there after, after about a month of getting everything set up, and testing the sidecar first ( i was a newbie rider at the time ) i started slow, just going up and down in front of the house with the dog in the car, within 2 days, we were cruising at 60mph, and the dog was loving it !.....i have 2 bikes, and its funny, the dog knows which bike is hers!, if i pull the other bike out, she could care less, but when i pull "her" bike out, she goes nuts! ( you better not be leaving without me!...lol ) i made a restraint out of some channel i got at work, i use a eyebolt with some washers, that allows it to move up and down the channel, the dog can go from the front to back with out a problem, i also had a guard made for the left side of the rig, because if we make a right hand turn, she had room to fall over to the exhaust side....the way i have it all set up now, there is NO way for the dog to fall, or jump out

all i can say is that its one of the best toys i ever bought for my dog...lol

My dog Max takes his first ride...

You'll notice his padded harness (from PETCO). I ran an old computer bag shoulder strap at an angle from under the seat back to the luggage rack. He's perfectly safe.

Hi Hyster: Looks like Max is having fun. I'm considering removimg the seat so Maddie will sit deeper in the car -- such might work better for Max as well. Let me know if it works better if you try it.
Also, what type/brand halter is Max wearing?

Did anyone see the Dog Whisperer on the National Geographic channel Friday 3/13/09? He was working with a 3-legged Staffordshire Terrier that rides in a sidecar. The problem was with the dog on the leash, not in the sidecar.
