California sales tax?

I found a new bike in a CA dealership but I live in Oregon. Does anyone know if I can buy the bike in CA and not have to pay their sales tax since I will be registering it here in Oregon? I have asked one CA dealer and he says I have to pay, but I was also told by a friend that all they need to do is fill out a out of state form and I don't have to pay. We don't have a sales tax in Oregon. (They make us pay a lot of property tax though every year.)

You should move up to Washington where we are tax free. LOL
At least we don't tax out of State customers. (Nor pay your 5% flat rate income tax unless we work there).
Tell me, Are there still wild goats living in the canyon below the Powers Bridge?

Don't know about the goats Lonnie.

You don't tax out of state buyers? I am looking for a 2004-2006 kawasaki Vulcan 1500, 1600 or 2000 classic. If you don't charge tax to out of state buyers, I might come up there looking for a bike. I am visiting relatives next week around Winlock so I might just have to putt on up to the local bike shops too.

The nearest Kaw dealer from Winlock is probably in Longview or Olympia. Unless there's one in Centralia. They may have a new leftover '05 for a good price.
Bring along proof of out of state residence to avoid WA sales taxes.

It's tough. If you can find a dealer to not charge you sales tax, by law you are not allowed to ride it in California, and ideally they must deliver it to you outside of the state.

I work for a new car dealer, and we will not do out of state deliveries like that. If anything wrong happens the dealer ends up being responsible for you sales tax, and DMV fees.

Thanks for the info guys. I found a new 05 Vulcan 1600 classic in Longview, WA with no tax and what I think was a pretty good deal. Now I am looking for a sidecar match. One thing that is a worry though is the warning in the bike owners manual that says that a sidecar should not be attached to the bike. I've seen pics of vulcans and sidecars so what could go wrong.

Just about all cycle MFGRs that do not offer a sidecar have such a disclaimer. It's all about potential liability that could possibly be incurred in the event of a future lawsuit involving non stock parts or accessories. It's all about $$$$$$$$$$$.
