A friend sent me this article about 70 year old swiss Fritz Egli setting a sidecar speed record at Bonneville on Sept 1. He did it on a Hayabusa. 332km/h (208mph). The article is in french...I could not find any reference in english. Does anyone know anything more about this exploit?

I think the important records are the sidecar With passenger records.
In my eyes a wheel and fender does not a sidecar make.

Wonder how much ballast he would need to make the corner safely?

I DO NOT want to take away from this man's record, but Hack'n is correct. My wife and I set the records with STOCK STREET bikes and a passanger. Bonneville has stopped allowing passangers because there were women involved. No on can convince me otherwise. They stopped allowing passangers in 1989, the year after we set our records. By the way the sidecar was a Bingham Mark 2 and had a full roll cage, like a race car and a fire system. One sidecar fit all five bikes with the switch made in 10 minutes. My wife and I designed the attachment method and the chassi. The year of 1988 we took the BMW tubo, my street bike and the same sidecar. For referance go to you tube and type in Bonneville sidecar records. There is a video.

I believe there was a sidecar racing group at the South Tahoe National Rally last June with a rig that has eclipsed the old open class passenger record set in 1989.
It seems since the SCTA no longer controls the show that passenger sidecars are again allowed and at least one record has been topped.
I could be wrong but perhaps someone else will chime in on this new information.

I'm new here so Howdy! The SCTA does not allow passengers at their events (El Mirage dry lake and Bonneville). BUB runs a bike only event at Bonneville which allows passengers. BUB is an entirely seperate entity and is no way connected with the SCTA. The SCTA sidecar classes are moving away from the wheel on a stick sidecar. And there are some innovative sidecars appearing. There is a 500cc Weslake (pushrod not OHC) powered outfit that has run over 122 on gas

Thank you for the info. Why don't this sactioning body that you are refering to transfer over our records that my wife and I set? I have seen a new video on you tube aof two guys setting what they say is an AMA sidecar record for a 750cc. If you look at our video you will notice that our sidecar had to have a FULL roll cage and a fire system before we were allowed to run at Bonneville. We paid to open these classes at $300 each and had to open 3 entries in each class. We opened 4 classes and set records in 3 of the four. I also set the national drag record with the BMW at Freemont Raceway when Drag Bike sactioned that event. I will take pictures of all our trophies and post here. Keep in mind our records were set with street bikes that we drove. Briggs from Eueika,CA set the 750 turbo record in 1988. I have noticed that the SCTA record books took our names as the record holders out for some reason. The records that have been "reset" are without a passanger. I think that whoever is sactioning the new records should first add our records in and look at the way we were set up to set them. If I were to really look at these new records I would have to discount them. They, SCTA, no longer allow passangers so our records set with them will NEVER be broken. People should also check with Doug Bingham. Sorry for the ranting. There is no mallace meant to anyone that is posting. It is the sactioning bodies that tend to ruffel my feathers by discounting the fact of what we did in not only setting these records but to open these classes to be able to run at these events.

Hi Skip.
It seems that history is constantly changing to suit the current political correctness of the times and you are another victim, along with your crew; Sarurday's heroes.
I remember in 1961 when my bride and I toured the "Balclutha" a former slave ship moored in the San Fransisco harbor. It was complete with all the appurtenances of a slaver at the time.
In 1971 we stopped in for a tour on our way to Mexico and we found the name had been changed to "Star of Alaska" and it was rigged out as a salmon processer with no mention of it's former duties. Just some humalimali about fishing in Alaska.
It's a shame that things are that way in these times. With so much new superflous information being availabe at the touch of a digit now, the reality and truths of the past are buried in Bull S**t.
We even have golf being considered for the Olympics. Now there's a heartstopper.

I still say: A wheel and fender does not a sidecar make!
