Bleeding brakes
Greetings all. I have a new to me '07 Ultra with a TLE car. The rear brakes are spongy and I want to bleed them. My question is do I need to bleed both the hack and the bike and if so which do I do first? Thanks.
hd manual says to do sidecar bleeder first and rear tire bleeder last
the two times ive done this ive done it twice - bleed the sidecar till its clear, bleed the rear till its clear then do it again just in case
the newest hd units - the sidecar brake connects directly to the rear wheel caliper with a special double bolt - on those you bleed the rear till its clear and then do the sidecar wheel... and OBVIOUSLY the new hd sidecars make no pretense of easy on and easy off - its all day both ways - plus a box of parts both ways

I would like to suggest that you get a reverse bleeding kit, you use a syringe to push the brake fluid up to the master cylinder, the same way air goes, if you don't want to do that do it the old fashion way but it takes 2 people unless you have one of those one man bleeding hoses, start at the longest point,,sidecar, back wheel then front.
I use a Mity-Vac unit. It pulls vacuum from the wheel cylinder and removes the air that way. I learned about Mity-Vac when I had a Gold Wing. It makes the whole bleeding job very easy.
Harbor Freight has them and also online sellers on eBay.
I have a mity-vac also and it does a good job of getting fluid out but air floats and that's why I do it in reverse. take a look:

So many tools, so little time! LOL.
Thanks for the input. Will start with the car and move inboard then start again. I am also watching a few auctions for a mighty-vac.

There are two versions of Mity-Vac, by the way. They look the same, except one is nice die-cast metal and very durable. The other one is die-cast plastic and looks flimsy to me. The difference is about $20 in priice. They really do work, though and they have numerous other uses besides brake work. You can test vacuum systems with them, too, for one thing.
JMO.
Good tip, Thanks again.
