backing up without reverse
now that I've taken a few rides with my sidecar, I'm wondering what folks do to park if you don't have a "ride-right-through" situation. I live near (and work in) a major metro area and don't think I could back into a parking spot while straddling the rig the way I can on a solo bike.
Have your monkey get out and push you back in place, or kick backward with your left foot, or get off the rig and push it back. It's not going to fall over like a solo bike, you know.
After you are parked don't forget to leave it in first gear or if you have to park on a hill carry a wedge block with you.

Use gravity.
Coast backwards into spaces that are downhill to the curb so you can drive out under power.
Pull forward under power into spaces that are uphill to the curb, then coast backwards.
on large level lots pull forward into the adjoining space so you are pointing out, or if you have two adjoining spaces pull into one and do a sharp u turn so you are facing out of the adjoining space.
After you pull the rig uphill out of a couple spaces you will learn to think ahead about how you will exit the space, and pull in accordingly.
I always plan my departure upon my arrival, Doc.
This past Spring, after my wife had gotten her first rig; we took it to a nearby Rally. While we were sitting near the registration tent, an (obviously experienced driver) pulled in on a hack. He turned left in front of us, drove up the hill on the far side of the road, and then neatly backed into his parking spot.
I was so impressed!
I'm glad I have a Dnepr! I love the looks on peoples faces when I back up a hill to get out of a parking spot.
