Hey there,
I recently bought a replacement for my trusty old HitchHiker, so it is time for me to put it up for sale. Problem is, I bought it around 12-13 years ago, and have no idea about current value.

Around two years ago I did a restoration on the frame, stripped the old paint, cleaned any surface rust, welded on new stronger mounts (slip tubes), new swingarm and wheel bearings, wheel spokes, repainted the frame...

This model has a 18" motorcycle wheel, and it currently has a good condition sidecar tire installed on it. The slide mounts/clamps were fabricated for me by Jay out at Dauntless, and I welded the mounting tube to the existing frame. It had some really hokey light-weight stuff on it when I bought it...

The body is solid, and I have a lockable slam-latch on the trunk lid which holds it closed from bouncing even when not locked (unlike the original 1/4 turn lock). The area where the latch engages the body has been reinforced with steel to prevent wear. Taillight/stoplight with separate amber turn signal to the rear and Night-Cutter driving light to the front all wired to quick connect plugs.
Good condition Tonneau cover & windshield. Original full carpeting and seat cushions in good condition as well.

The biggest issue with it is the paint on the body, and the fender, and a couple of cracks in the fender. It is going to need the fender repaired and the body sanded/repainted to really look sharp again.

So, what would be a fair asking price? How much should my bottom line be before I am giving it away well below actual value?

I am planning on taking a couple of photos of it this afternoon, and can post them if it will help in determining a fair value.

Thanks!

Current NADA book shows the 1994 model at $1010. wholesale and $1350. retail (with no repairs needed). Deduct for repairs.

Thanks for the book values Lonnie.

I just posted an album with some decent photos of the sidecar and frame. How much do people think the fender condition and scratches in the paint will make in the value?

See the album here:

The car seems to be all there and in good condition. The paint color and condition aren't a big issue since few buyers if any would have matching paint.
Most would want to repaint to match their bike anyway.

Thanks again Lonnie,

Yes, I have tried to keep the car in pretty good condition over the years. I believe in routine preventative maintenance as a way to prevent en-route problems.

Don't understand those owners who never maintain or think about the mechanical condition of their vehicles until something goes "clunk!"...

It sometimes happens to all of us, even with the best of maintenance. But I see so many "stranded" motorists (bikes & cars/trucks) where it really just boils down to not paying attention to something minor before it became a major problem at the side of the road...

...But I digress... 😉

btw - the current blue paint is a pretty decent match to my old Monza Blue BMW R75/6, and also the blue pinstripe from my latest tug, which was a silver '82 R100RT.

Looked pretty good as either a matching color, or picking up the highlight color of the tug, I thought...
