Hello all,
I am toying with the idea of purchasing a Texas Sidecar.
Any information you could provide me regarding their business ethics, support, responsiveness, quality, durability etc. would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Larry

Hey Larry,
I have the newest Ranger model from Texas Sidecar and my wife and I really love it! The quality and attention to detail of the rig is awesome as well as the fit and finish. I'll admit that I don't have alot to compare it to, but I have been 100% satisfied. The mounts are well built and it went together fairly easily. I had some clamp difficulties (needed to mix and match sizes) and Bob sent me exactly what I needed / asked for priority mail the next day. I have been completey satisfied with the car and the company.
I have the ranger on a 1200C Sportster and just got back from a trouble free 750 mile trip to the coast and back!

Henry,
Thanks for the input. The fact that you have your sidecar on a sportster is great news, because my bike is a XL1200L. Thanks again for the info.

Larry,

I had a bad experience with Texas Sidecar, and won't go into it, but I will say don't attempt to buy a sidecar directly from a manufacturer and expect them to mount it for you. Anyway, I did however find Perry's Motorcycles and Sidecars in Fort Worth Texas. He fabricated and mounted a Ural sidecar on my 2003 Harley Davidson Heritage Softail and not to toot my own horn but it is absolutely great!! His phone number is 817-429-9922, he was a BMW dealer for 30 years and now he is a super sidecar installer, he will do whatever it is you want. I'll get some pictures of mine listed this evening.

Jim,
Thanks for the info. I live in Missouri and don't expect Texas Sidecar to do my installation. I have a friend who is a seasoned Harley mechanic (30 years)who has agreed to help me out with the installation.
However,I am curious about your negative experience with Texas Sidecar.
I know, and understand, why you wish not to discuss it, but could you tell me if the experience was with the sidecar itself or the company?
Thanks,
Larry

Larry,

Joyce included that link describing all my issues with Texas Sidecar. Thank you Joyce. I wish you the best with your sidecar experience. There are some very helpful people on this site and I'm glad to have found them myself.

Well, if anyone cares...I bought a Texas Sidecar Standard model back in 2003 from Bob Darden. He shipped it to me in Minnesota already color matched and with all mounting hardware and some very good instructions. I ran into a snag or too during my install. Called him up and he talked/walked my through my confusion.

I saw him at the USCA rally in LaCrosse, WI that summer and he used up several hours of the rally helping me re align the sidecar.

I think he is a good businessman, and generally great guy.

Thanks again for the information.

I am sure Texas side car is fine. They have been busines for sometime. I considered them when I was shopping. I had a Ural for a little while, sold it and wanted a better outfit overall. Acquired a Kawa Drifter 1500. Started looking for a sidecar to attach. Bike has custom paint and wanted to match the paint on the hack. Hannigan worked with me. I dropped the bike in Nov on my way to S Texas, picked it up in March. Paint matching and design was perfect. The Classic model looks great with the Drifter. Now, why did I got to Hannigan. Brakes linked to the foot brakes on the bike. A jack on the hack controlled from the bike at any time to raise or lower the hack to change the angle of the bike. IE go right down the road hands off. Adjust for load, road, wind etc. A quality product and great people.

Problems, TANK SLAPPING HEAD SHAKE, could not take my hands off the bar at any time........Worked with Dave Hannigan, sent me a shock, rigged up an attachment to the front axel. END OF PROBLEM, WORKS GREAT, HANDS OFF RIDING IS NO PROBLEM, NOT THAT I RIDE HANDS OFF. Can now use throttle lock, rest right hand, scratch where I need to scratch.

Do what makes you satisfied. Thats why there is more than one mfg out there.

I've got a Texas Ranger for almost a year since I installed it on a 07 Harley Road Glide. I've riden all over Ark went out west all over Id. Ok Ut.Co. Wy. Sd & Ka. .twice. I'm going to guess 10,000 miles +. And not one problem. The only probems I've with changing to my Triumph America. And that just with one pice of hardwear, that Texas didn't even make. But all lined out now. And ready for a another big year with my Texas sidecar Rudyr
