Another Insurance Question?
I used an online insurance quote and may have asked for to much coverage. The quote was for over $480.00 Dollars a year. Oach! This is for a 81 Goldwing and sidecar
What type of coverage do you have?
How much property damage and how much deductable?
How much liability coverage and how much deductable?
Do you carry extra coverage for Hospital visits for passenger?
Do you carry collision and how much deductable?
Towing and how good is it, how much will it pay for?
Is it for six months like my auto or is it for a year? When my last motorcycle was an add on, it only cost me less than $70.00 for the year, on course it was half the size of my Goldwing and had no sidecar. Now I only want to insure the MC & sidecar, but the quote was 1/2 agin more than my 91 Mazda B2600I was for a year.
Does your insurer allow for monthly payments?
I just have the basic 15/30/10 uninsured motorist @ 15, no medical, and towing. I had Geiko and was paying $1600.00 per year, I checked around and Harley insurance put me with Hartland/Viking for $900.00. But then again I'm insuring an 06 Harley with 06 Harley sidecar so I'm covering over 42K on just those.
Sometimes it is less expensive to let an independent agent look for you, they can get into a lot of insurance companies that most people have not even heard of.
You could also try formost at http://www.formostinsurance.com, when I had my trike just prior to getting the hack I was paying only $300.00 per year for it and I didn't even have a motorcycle license at that time.

Ted and any others: My sidecar rig is the only vehicle I will be insuring, which may have a bearing on the quote, even though I list the riding as pleasure. I do not need it for transportation, since I use public transportation for the disabled in town. They didn't ask if I was disabled and I didn't say. I do not nead any special divices to drive, it's safer for me to have assistance to keep the motorcycle upright when at slow speeds and at a stop.
Ted, I suppect your low cost is due in part that you also have other vehicles insured, is this so? What does your roadside assistance cover, how far and to where will they tow you? is your insurer's named Nationwide
and do you as a member of AMA get a prefered rate from Nationwide?
Only the bike is insured with Nationwide and road side coverage will take you and your bike to the nearest model dealer, in my case Honda, plus you get 100 bucks a day for lodging and food up to 5 days and this policy isn't special only the 7,000 is and 3000 is there already so I just paid for 4k and I think that was 14 16 bucks, I posted before about Nationwide and 2 or 3 went to them, I do belong to the AMA but as I remember that wasn't a big deal to the agent but the AMA does endorse it.

Ted: I checked into Nationwide here in Reno, NV. The inquiry came back as "No Insurance Rep Available in Reno, NV. Not sure I want an insurance company that doesn't have a face to see once in awhile. I will call them later by phone to make further inquiry on a local office rep.
I'm told I must carry at least PL & PD with uninsured motorist in my state. Roadside assistance is a must and I would like to have collision, fire & theft for my replacement cost of bike and sidecar, about $3,000. for motorcycle and about $1,000 for sidecar. This is to cover what I have added to my motorcycle & sidecar since I bought them. Deductable is negociable, but I would like to keep it low, due in fact that a large deductable would be a hardship on my budget, being on a fixed income.
So I guess I will be making a couple of phone calls in the A.M.. The afternoon is for groceries and locating a thread tap so I can complete my install of my sidecar mounts on my motorcycle.

I'm paying about the same for 12 months stated value with Progressive, but I've been with them since 1968. My cars are with a different company. One of the biggest differences I've found has been location. When I lived in Rochester MN, Atlanta, Amarillo, and again in Lexington KY my insurance skyrocketed. Then, each time I moved back to rural Wisconsin it would drop. Even moving into the state from near the Wisconsin/Minnesota border brought a significant decrease in premium.
That was one of many reasons we decided to stay here this time. :0)
I'm with Safeco have a 2003 yamaha v star 1100.Liability, Bodity 50/100,000. Property 25/50,000. Passenger 100,000.Other then collision and collision 475 deducatibel. Towing 300. Custon parts 4,500. For a total of 133.00 a year. My car is not with them.
Went with Markel Insurance, best annual price at $233.00, Near as can be to full coverage, with comprehensive, uninsured motorests and roadside assistance. Although it is basic State of Nevada requirements, I'll get my money invested back, if it is crashed, stolen, or burns to the ground and I won't be stranded on the road either.
By the time the paperwork arrives, I should have my rig up and running and ready for the road. First trip, 40 mile round trip to the DMV for the VIN# inspection and hopefully registration. I still have to come up with one peace of paperwork, for it to all to come together. Yea!
try Markel Bikeline insurance..I have full coverage on my
rig ...annual, total replacement value $12,000.

year extra. nice to have. I used it 2 years ago when I had a flat on
my rig, while pulling a cargo trailer.
