American Sprit
I've a Question for all you expert's. I've riden this side car pretty hard in the 70's then put in the barn and now after 30's want to stare rideing side cars agein. The question is the side car is a American Sprit, about 6 months ago I called a very informitive gentelmen that told me they were really dangers because the axels swing arm were only weilded at one point on the frame. He's right, but the axle looks to be about 7/8 or 13/16's. So can I bridge the frame with anothe 1" pice of heavy wall tubeing on the other end of the axel pivot point and strip to the tubeing. It's a chrome frame and after I put the tubeing in I will just paint it all black. Will it work do you think?rudyr the new guy
Reinforcing the swing-arm attachment area couldn't hurt.
Realize that the heaviest of these sidecars were only 140# units and the mounts will not support a heavy bike. They will work fine with a lower displacement intermediate sized bike but not the heavy weight cruisers.

At the time I used that sidecar to a Triumph trident. It worked well but would get out of ajustment form time to time. I never did really like those bracket connection on the side car frame. But at the time I didn't worrey about it, just lived with it tell I got around to ajusting it. You know about youth and being a side racer to. The other guy get's hurt. If I'm going to reinforce the frane any way I can put some braceing on the bike side. Would you know where a person could get some ajustable eyebolts and frame connections. Now I wan't to match it up to Triumph America 800cc, about 500 lb's. Rudyr
