A Fortnight in Provence
Amy and I just got back from a 2week vacation in France. We rented a Ural Patrol from Moto Provencale for the first part of the trip and it was a blast! I am putting the photos up at Adventure Rider with a short trip report http://www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=233721
We took a ton of pictures so it will take a while for me to finish...
I'll be checking back often Vernon. Indeed a trip that most of us just dream about. How cool would it be to put together a group of sidecarists from the US to do a tour in France. Is this affordable for the average guy?
Is it affordable for the average guy? I don't know- I don't have it in my budget again anytime soon. A big part of the trip was a wedding gift from our parents-we were supposed to take a honey moon about 7 years ago, but just now got around to it.
Amy handled the money so I am not sure yet what we spent, but I don't think it was at all out of line compared to similar motorcycle tour packages in Europe. You might be able to get a group discount for airfare and the tour...
We had a blast and I would do it again.
Joyce, I just got back from a week in Europe myself. If you shop the airfares and hotels carefully (ain't that dang ol' internet thang great!) it is well within reach of the average guy. I didn't rent a bike this time but I did price them at about what you would pay to rent a HD in Phoenix (last place I rented a bike) starting at around $125.00 a day and then up from there with the average just under $200.00 per day depending on how much bike you want. I didn't price any rigs and I don't remember seeing them on any of the sites I went to but I'm sure they were available. (I got a mid-size car for a week for under $200.00 for comparison)
Basically for hotel+airfare+rent-a-car it came to right at $1100.00 a person. Food and other expenses on top of that.
If you shop it far enough in advance and do your homework Europe is doable and worth every penny. Just like here, camping is cheaper than hotelling and you can economize on food and other expenses. Not a cheap vacation but for a few times in a lifetime adventure (never say once, you'll want to do it again) it can be within reach.
