Ural shock squeeking... and squeeking! replace with?
Hi my friends... now that we have solved the wobble problem... (taking off for Portland tomorrow to have the front shock fixed by GP Suspension, in Oregon City actually... while I wait...), the ural shock on the car is driving me bunkers! Before Andy and Dauntless redid the whole rig I use to spray it with litium... not that I keep a clean rig... but it made a mess and the sqeeking would come back with vengance! Even with ear plugs I feel like I am driving a 32 Ford down the road at times (when slow...), this is assuming that a 32 Ford squeeks also...
Has any one... experiencing this phenomenon?... How can I fix this without spending much $'s?...
I know... another one of those silly challenges!!!
Be well...

Ara, I have a Ural car on my V Strom. When I replaced the springs on the rear shock and front forks I used Wilbers springs as they were the only company who made heavy duty springs for a V Stom shock (so I did noy have to buy new shock)
At the time, last fall, I dealt with Klaus, who owned the US distriborship for Wilbers. He was very familiar with sidecars, and said he had replaced the Ural sidecarshock for other customers. I did not get one then, as the original unit was still OK. Also, I dont remember the price.
Klaus has since split up with Wilbers, so O dont know if the new distributor would be as knowledgable, but it might me worth calling them.
GOOGLE Wilbers USA
If you cant find their phone number, let me know, I should have it somewhere.
Sounds like the spring is moveing around, did you notice any rust around the top or bottom of the spring, if you did that's the one that's doing it, you can try making a washer with a cut out so it will slip in between the spring and collar out of a milk jug.
Thanks for the info... the springs is also too soft, I rebuild it with the $8 kit... but no progress... I will get in touch with Wilbur and find out the cost of a new one... I know that TwinTwin has 3 new shocks... but... his are too rich for my blood...
Thanks... it is driving me crazy when I can hear it over my earplugs!!!
Quality... russian quality!!!

Hello Ara and Spirit,
he is the one who will realy suffer!
If Koni is still available and in buissines I would go with them. You adjust spring and damping seperately and they last long without much wear.
Damping in a second without tools.
possible squeazing sources:
bent rod > new
damaged internal parts > new
broken spring > new
spring rideing on tube > teflon cover
broken ancour pin > new
misallignment and parts rubbing > pry bar or 20 pound hammer job
frame fissure > repair and reenforceing
Good luck
Sven
