rear wheel
i just had a sidecar installed on a 97 goldwing sl its a champion two seater and the back tire on the bike has worn away on one half of the tire. the side that is next to the side car its almost right down the middle the left side is ok but the right side is bald. any ideas? i have the tilt on the sidecar and looking at the bike from the rear it looks fine it drives good dosent pull one way or the other you can even take your hands off the bar and it will track straight. only had about 500 miles on it with the sidecar.
1. front and rear wheel could be out of line so that rear drive is at an angle.
2. too much or too little air pressure in rear tire
3. rear control arm a bit loose or worn, or rear wheel bearings loose/worn
4. too much toe in and not enough lean out; hack tire wear signs?
5. road surface with hump in middle of lane causing right side wear
6. hack mounts flexing or have 'slack' at connections
7. steering head loose ( it takes only a wee bit to have an effect)
8. all of the above
I'd check the bearings and swing arm first, then the bike alignment, then the toe in and lean out. Be sure to check toe in and lean out with weight on it, rather than w/o driver & rider.
