?? REAR MAIN SEAL REPLACEMENT ON K100/EML RIG
I have oil dripping from the weep hole on my '85 K100 with attached EML sidecar and will therefore need to address the rear main engine seal. I have studied the available info in the K100 manual and on various WEB Sites and I feel reasonably comfortable tearing into the K100 to replace the seal but am wondering how much, if any interference will occur as a result of the subframe from the EML modifications. Will it be necessary to remove any/all the EML mounting hardware in order to complete the job? Anyone up here in the NE Florida area with any experience with this repair that would be willing to offer advise?

Lynn,
I'm not in Florida [anymore] but here's what I've heard. There was a thread on another site, EML Sidecar Lounge, about transmission maintenance. I thought that the whole subframe had to be removed but others posted that if the rear bolts and lower bolts were removed, the subframe could be torqued down enough to get access to the transmission. Good luck, removing the entire subframe is a real chore!
Thanks for the response Al, I'll look for that thread. When I ask if any one in NE Florida could give me some advise I was of course hoping that there might be someone around that would be willing to hold my hand and give moral support. 🙂

Send me an E-mail and I will send you pictures of how I pulled the subframe down. I have done it several times Harold in Kansas
Harold, would you post that photo on EML Sidecar Lounge? THX!
Ok Al-- I will give it a try. I am not in Kansas right now and my internet is a little skechy. Harold Who isn't in Kansas right now.
