Power Commander For Harley Davidson
Is anyone running a Power Commander on thier Harleys ? I know it helps your torque and Hp on solo bike but will it help with sidecar mounted on the bike ? I bought one with auto tune about a month ago befor I desided to get the sidecar, have not installed it yet but will while hooking up the TLE. My bike is 08 RoadGlide stock except for stage1 download, bub true duel pipes with crossover and upgraded air cleaner. Trying to figure out if the Power Commander will help. Also do you need to go to a different gear ratio for pulling the hack?
Hello. I have a 2007 883 Harley, with a Watsonain Monaco attached all the time. It pulls good with the sprocket size it came with. so you shouldn't have to change your gearing. A power commander I haven't tried, so no idea on that. Read the Harley forums about the commander to see if it is worth it and what it does for the bikes pulling power. Doug in Manitoba

It's possible to get by without a modifier such as a Power Commander if you only change mufflers. Once you change the air cleaner, it's a good idea to take a look at something that will provide a better mixture to prevent the engine from running lean.
Power Commander is one way to change mixture across the sprectrum. There is also the DFO (Dobeck Fuel Optimizer) that only adds fuel. Many people used the HD SERT (Screamin' Eagle Race Tuner) on bikes up to 2007 or so. That permits a complete change of fuel and air across the entire specrum that can be viewed on your computer. I don't know if it's still used on the newer Harley-Davidsons, in fact, I don't even know if they can be purchased new anymore since Harley has toned down their performance items under the Screamin' Eagle logo.
A good place to start would be to do a spark plug test. It's necessary to run the bike at high speed for at least a half mile. Then shut the engine down, coast to a stop and immediately remove the plugs without any idling. At that point you can tell if the mixture is too lean. There are pictures on the internet of various plug conditions.
Good luck.
i have an 06 with pipes and air cleaner, i first had the Techlusion set up and was unhappy, i picked up the Power comander and down loaded a similuar map from there site and on the first run, the power and responce was excellent best add on i ever purshased. I added the 6 speed and was again great. I added the tle sidecar and found no issues, the cruise control in 6th gear was more slugglish, but 5th was a brease, still cruised at 80 -85 and not a issue, 70-75 was also an easy ride, when pulling from a stop if i gave it a bit extra it responded a lot better
Thanks for the info guys, Ed you have the answer I was looking for, I know the PC works on solo bikes because I've had them on a couple of Harleys but I was'nt sure if it would be worth it to use the PC running a sidecar. I already bought the PC before I decided to buy the sidecar so now I guess I'll put it on when I'm installing the sidecar. This winters' mods are going to take awhile but I think I can meet the challange,at least I hope so lol. Thanks for all the help guys.Bobby
yep winter mods, the power commander can be altered to obtain what ever results you are needing, more power, less mpg, more mpg less power, and eveey where in between , i am looking into a reverse gear for a winter project, not sure yet but might be a ahndy thing to have
