In another thread today, scrinch tells how reducing his toe helped to eliminate a front end wobble. When I put my current rig together, Gary from Motorvation told me I could use all the Harley mounting pieces except the two lower clamps. The HD clamps are 9 inches long, which he said would put the chair too far forward and create a shimmy. He said I needed 13 inch clamps to position the car's lead at 4 inches. I was able to get it to 6 inches with the Harley tubes. Close enough.
WRONG!
Though not uncontrollable, there was a shimmy at all speeds. In most cases just the weight of my hands was enough to stop it, but every time I relaxed my grip, it was back.
I ordered the proper clamps and the shimmy is gone! Nothing else has changed.
Some folks cure it with steering head bearings or swing arm bushings, I knew one guy who claimed his was cured by a set of progressive springs.
My point is, Don't give up. Sometimes lots of little things lead to a problem and sometimes it's just one big thing.
