For mining I'd rather use 3 times bigger bolt than better grade. They always have lowest possible grades. Because of badly understood economy (and monkey-style working) they will not buy anythg more expensive than the cheapest, even if cheapest is in fact more expensive. What happens if you change bolt grade 8 to grade 3? They WILL do it as soon as the bolt rusts completely. Or "weld" rusted parts.

I have no influence on technology we use. Mining company MUST make a tender and MUST choose offer that is cheapest per piece, even if it's few times more expensive per year of use. Otehrwise they can be supposed to be uneconomical. stupid but true, so talking about better technology doesn't make sense here 🙁

Why does that sound so familiar? I think I worked for the same people! They prefer their own opinions over proper engineering.

"Why do you do that the way you do it?"

"Because we have always done it that way."

Like foul stagnant water: the layer of slime and scum rises to the top.

The mesh wire backed up by polyetilene - idea implements one aspect that might work in some way that would have to be tested on its efectiveness => The shark skin effect as in air planes. But depending on the measurement principle it might distorsion the results. That is the reason why I'd love to get more input first.
And the "economic" discusion is with Latinos and Gringos a hopelessly lost point.

But as stubburn Prussian I stay to grandfathers saying: "The best quality available is barely good enough."
I know I am a hopelessly lost idealistic. But in the end I will get confirmed, ...as usually when the baby already will have been flushed down the loo. :O
Sven

PS: the Gringo here is not to insult, but the typical nick name we use here in Centralamerica for the "modern" guided transnational companies.

What I described was only meant for reinforcing a pipe that was being worn out because of abrassive effects.

I can see it working on solid or flexible pipe but not permanently to last forever. It would still degrade as the polyurethane wears away, depending on how tough the poly is. I was only thinking that it might make a pipe last much longer. It would be fairly easy to experiment with it on a short section of pipe, to compare with other sections.
