WOW
This web site is fantastic..The help you give so freely to people is amazing. You guys have all ready saved me from a couple of costly buys.
I have ordered a manual from my dealer, of course heaven knows when it will come in.
But need help asap. Looking at a 2000 TLE and was told no problem fitting on my 2003 Ultra. Presently it is on a 1999 Road glide and the seller claims it is the same frame as my 2003 Ultra. Please help!!!! is this a straight bolt on or am I going to have to order a mounting kit or parts of one.
Many thanks in advance
chuck

hmm

first off a 99 road glide wont have the roll over switch so you will need one

its brake pedal and brake parts will fit your bike - fastest and cheapest is if the two bikes are side by side is to just swap the entire rear brake pedal, cyl, res across - other wise you have to get the cartrige out of both sets of brake and swap the res parts..

front lower mount will be ok, upper mount will be ok - dont forget to do the voltage reg bolts - just pull bolts from the shelf via the manual - when you do the voltage reg mount mod you have to press out the original bolts - they wont press back in.

the rear mount will need to be two bolt - you "probably" have a three bolt on the 99 bike.

rear brake tee will be the same, tail light wires will be the same, oil pressure sender will be the same, steering dampener mounts will be the same, again take the deflector off the 2003 bike and put it on the 99 bike and take the steering dampener off the 99 and put it on the 03.

saddle bag latch will be the same.

clutch cable will cross over, again if you do the remove of one bike during the install of the other just swap cables. on my 2000 bike i installed the hyd clutch kit while i had it all apart - that was worth it, i got the black kit for 300. id do hyd on my 07 if a kit was available.

so basically to sum up - if the sidecar is CURRENTLY on a 99 bike and you are purchasing it WITH all the itsy parts - you and the seller can save time and hassle & BUX to have the mounting kit moved from one bike to the other at the same time since all the parts you NEED on your bike he NEEDS the parts you will be removing from yours on his bike to put it back together again. if you are really lucky and he has his box of removed parts - then you get the box and you both save money on the swap.

often, real often the seller doesn't want to spend the bux on the shop time to remove the parts leaving the buyer stuck with the cost of those parts - if a seller offered me a 1200 discount to just leave the parts on his bike id do that and order a new kit.

thanks Timo482, your imput is much appreciated. Funny how everyone thinks it is just a 5 min job to mount a car. I ran a mobile Dyno (now old and retired) and dynoed many bikes, never with a side car LOL. Looking forward to a 3 wheel meet (rally) sometime in the future

ya i know

hd "used to advertise easy on, easy off" but the blue book says all day to install the kit 2 hours to install the sidecar and align, thats "easy" b&*&^. three years ago the local dealer had a mech who had done many on and many off - they charged 10 hours - either way. install kit and car 10 hours, remove car and kit 10 hours - plus any missing parts.

the 09 & newer - ill bet to take the car off for a solo ride is 5 hours of shop time.. its now very involved both ways.

the local dealer did do one thing before the recent dealer sale and reorg...

they one guy they had that really "got" sidecars could do almost any work without removing the car.. the only time he would remove the car for work is if he had to remove the exhaust sys or get into the end of the trans or cam case - all the rest with the car on.. saved lots of bux. he had a sort of trans jack so he could put the bike on the lift and set the sidecar wheel on the jack and work on it all in once unit.

the real deal is that the current owner wants full price

but does not want to supply the whole kit, just the parts of the kit that are fast to remove

and a sidecar without the kit is worth 1200 less than one with the kit..

oh i get that

the last straw for me was about 9 years ago.. we had gone on a trip to loveland and it was all good

then the next spring we went on a trip to near north dakota and every time we came to a stop sign my left foot would be asleep and i feared id fall over

then about august that summer her back started having trouble - by spring she simply could not ride at all - i kept saying its time to get a sidecar and she kept getting all "im not that OLD!!!!! D*&^%T" about it.. but 10 mins of riding meant i had to help her out of bed for two weeks.

so i got the sidecar - she did the d)(*^(*&^(*&t about it, then one day late that next fall she went riding with me and some friends for about 8 hours

at the end of the day we were at one of the other guys house to have a beer and all of them were sore and tired and all the other females were complaining about there backs - and the light went on - 6" of soft suspension travel means no back pain!!!!

its been all good since then.
