newguy here needs some help
Hi all, I sure didn't mean to open a can of worms on this site, but I was just going buy what I got with the sidecar, and info from the sidecar manual received for free on this site (Thank you) however it was mostly for 2007-2010 sidecars. under the notes and exceptions list note #4 covered brake line assembly 87776-98a which is the line going to the brake lite switch, then under note#8 it covers brake line assembly 87776-08 it says this brake line was original equipment on certain 2008-2009 sidecars originally ordered for use on 2008 or later motorcycles this line connected at the rear caliper with a double banjo bolt. so I'm thinking the previous owner had thi sidecar (2003) hooked to a newer bike, so I have to change the line to something that will fit my bike, I just thought it would be easyer to hook it up there if I had the right fitting. ed
Your are correct after more research the 08 and 09 are different and go to the rear caliper I stand corrected. But the rear caliper on a 08 and 09 is different from one on a 01 or 02. The brake line ran to the tee till 08. I did not use the stock tea I got one recommended for my set up HD part number 87113-83 which tells me they where first used on 83 models.
Now after looking in my 09 parts manual many of the mounting parts changed in 07 and again in 09. I do not know the difference as I do not have them before me. Do you have more then one set of mounts? If not and it was on a 08 they many not work. Keep in mind in 09 is when the made big changes to the frame and motor mounts.
You are not opening a can of worms I am 58 and still learning every day. But I do like finding out what is what. Keep us posted.
yes I have an extra mount for the lower front right side, I believe its a newer part it is larger than the other mount but shaped a little different, it fits alot easyer as far as clearing the oilfilter mount, the other mount (which I assume is for the '01-03 models is more square shaped and hits the oil filter mount, and I got two rear mounts (one with a circle and one with a slot) if you know what I mean, locating pins I think. most everthing is ready except the brake hookup I waiting on parts I ordered I ordered some universal lines with the 3/8 10mm banjo bolts and ends, and waiting on paint. ed
Where are you located? You could of take the line you have cut of the banjo fitting double flared it with a flare nut on it got a brass fitting from the auto parts store and good chance you could have made it work. My mount for the rear has the round hole on my 02 ultra. The front lower mount is real close to my oil filter and I had to grind a little on my front lower left mount to make it where I could get the filter off.
Does your road king have hard bags?
I'm in Va. and I didn't get the saddlebag hinge but I have leather bags so no worries there I had to order a clutch cable too still waiting on that too
Yes with leather bags I think you will be OK. I got the latch for mine as I have hard bags and glade I did. If you where closer I would be happy to help you more.
I had my hack 2 years before I put it on so I keep searching eBay and got most of what did not come with the hack at a really good price. Are you going to put the remote reservoir on it and fitting for the master cylinder?
yes I've done the remote, I'm in no hurry figuring on a winter project, well just trying not to rush things, I would like to try it out.
When I put mine on I to do it in one day because it is my all most my only transportation. I have a 97 Oldsmobile but something wrong with the front end and I do not have the funds to fix it. My Oldsmobile I bought new it has 65K on it and my 02 bought new has over 90K on it LOL. I but everything on the bike a over a few weeks before putting the hack on.
I know it does not get as cold down here as up there but a week from this weekend the Georgia Sidecar Club is having a camp out in the north GA mountains. Yes I have a heater for my tent.
When you have time post some pictures.
yes, I'll definatly post some pics whenever I get done. the weather not to bad this week but its been cold here the last couple of weeks. spent some time camping in those north Ga. mts. back in '70 when I was at Ft. Benning.
You ever get this way let me know. Been a while since I been up your way. Here is my hack packed for the last camp out I did in Nov. First time I have not had to have anything on the back seat or on the tour pack rack. When I do my big trip or take my grandson I am sure I will.
