this problem is for all you ural experts out there, i have a 2006 ( 2004 biuld ) dalesman ( same as tourist ) with an ignition fault i have already posted this on rusian iron but thought i would try here to. bike is very low mileage so this fault may have always been there from new. runs ok for about 10mls ( 16k ) then dies wait a few seconds will re start & run ok for about 1 or 2 mls then dies again when engine is stopped the red led on ignition module stays lit for a short while & bike will not start until light goes out, i have i think eliminated overheating as i've been for a test ride today in the rain & symptoms persist. any & all thoughts welcome. Hank

I have Triumph America and had a problem kind off like yours. Let me say this frist I don't know anything about Ural wiring. MY Triump acted up like that for about a year until. Some Harley people I know said my problem sounded like grounding problem. So I starded with that in mind after all eles had failed. You know what I did that finley fixed the America, was plug and unplug the main computer( Triumph calls it a ingniter some call it a ECM and others *&^%) a few times and that fixed it. It didn't have a external ground it was in the pulg harness. Just a suggeston, when a guy going down for the last time he will try anything.Rudy

Hank, you have the type 5 ignition with the external module. The module does fail. If so, you'll need to upgrade to the latest ignition or go back to a points setup.

One thing to check is the very small multi-pin connector inside the upper front engine cover. The individual connectors often come loose. Take the connector apart and make sure all tthe little pins are in place. Reassemble making sure everything is connected.

If you still have this fault, you will have to go with a new ignition as no parts are sold for the type 5.

Not putting the RI site down in the least, as all Ural sites are good in one way or another, but if you want the best technical answers, specifically about a Ural, then the Soviet Steeds site will give quicker response and many times a much better one. If you want an answer specifically regarding a Dnepr, then the inverse is true. Just my opinion on it, but I've monitored both sites for a bit now and that is what I find. The motherboard for IMWA is sometimes good, but the SS site beats the others when it comes to Ural "fix it" type of questions and a quick response being needed. Folk are attracted to each site for various reasons.

The Dalesman is old enough that the motherboard may be your best choice for answers. Lots of Uralists with experience in older bikes hang out there. There is also an archive site that Thomas Creedon (hope that is correct on the name) has going, that offers all the archives from the motherboard. It probably contains info on your rig, as it is the wealth of knowledge from the board over the years. I don't have a link, but it is on the threads at the motherboard. Good luck in the fix. I know you said you made the repair already, but it sounded more like pure luck than anything else. Glad luck was on your side.
