bought a 1998 car to attach to my 2003 Ultra.
Having a hard time trying to mount this.
Got most of the bits with the car, I have the part numbers for the 2bolt mount and the roll over kit, but need the part number for the oil sender elbow.
Also hope someone can tell me what the 87165-02 stand off is , and what it does and if I need it.
New to sidecars and trying to get this mounted so I can attend the Vermont sidecar rally next month.
Any help is greatly appreciated
thanks chuck

The oil sender elbow is a standard 90 degree brass fitting but the HD part number is 26337-99. I don't recall whether it's 1/4" pipe or 3/8" pipe but it just screws into the crankcase (carefully, very carefully) with the female portion pointing downward. The oil sending unit is screwed into the end. This enables the oil sending unit to clear the lower front mount.

Regarding standoffs, in 2002, Harley-Davidson changed the frame slightly so that adjustments could be done without removing either of the two lower mounts. The part number changed to 87160-98A. They changed the threads in the front horn of the frame to left-hand thread to accomodate a new part: 87150-02, standoff (front).

The also changed the rear mounting assembly (87157-87A). That's the brace between the sidecar frame and the rear mount) to incorporate a left-hand thread. This takes another new part, 87165-02, standoff (rear).

These operate like a turnbuckle when the inner jam nuts (87152-02) and the outer jam nuts (7855W) are loosened. In that way, it's no longer necessary to remove the mounts to change toe-in. The large 3/4" bolts stay in the frame and the standoff turns one way or the other to move the frame in or out at the front or rear.

If your frame is an early 1998, you won't need the standoffs or the inner jams nuts since they won't fit into the frame. The sidecar will handle the same once it's set, it's just harder to adjust.....sorry.......I guess you could look and see whether the threads are left or right. If the Heim joints screw directly into the frame and rear mount, it's an early version.

One good thing is that the rear mount ( 87114-93A, two bolts) was changed (widened) for 2002 and later bike frames to incorporate a spacer next to the rear mounting assembly. This eases the installtion of the rear mounting assembly which was hard to do on older sidecars.

As to the rollover conversion switch. I presume that you know that it has to be programmed in at the dealer. They charge a half hour labor..........

Happy Trails!
