On the clutch side cover there are 2 little fat washers at the top that are held on with hair pin clips, what's the secret to getting those little sumbitchs on far enough to put the hair pin clips in the slot.

A foto would be good.
But I think you are talking of a kind of spring clip with a simular shape like a car clutch spring.
You find them nowerdays pretty often in high volume consumer goods.

Hold the pin from the back tight so that it cannot ceed. Use a bushing (ratchet nut bit) that sits on the middle of the springy fins. Pushing down with the bushing you bend the fins and should be able to settle the fin's ends into the groove.
Tiny small stuff and nasty to dismantle but very safe, as long you do not permanently bend the fins.

Sevn, the side case where the clutch cable goes thru, at the top of that side case there are 2 pins that go thru a backing plate, one is at the bottom of the engine V and the other is way to the right at the end of the case, on the outside of the backing plate there are 2 little fat washers and 2 spring clips that hold the side case in place along with a screw at the bottom of the case, I find it impossible to put the spring clips on when the washers are in place, I thought there was maybe something that I was doing wrong and someone would tell me what it was.

Sounds so that something doesn't lign up or the parts in between are in wrong position. Or scars (hammer scars. ..wear...dirt) don't let settle well the parts. I don't know your bike but in general the clips have to settle just snug. tiny differences in thicknesses or too thick packings or what ever seem to play with you nasty games.
Regards
Sven.
