front mount Velo to Burgman

any suggestions on how to get a velorex front mount to "stretch" 7 3/4 in to properly connect to an 06 burgman 650 with dauntless subframe?my best guess is to weld a section on to the original front mounting arm,but dont know if that might cause other problems.
